OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hi Sarah bongo - awesome!  When did your son arrive at boot camp?  Its great we will get to meet at PIR and head to A school together, which could be great supports to each other.  Did you join the groups:  PIR 3/22 ...and what ship/div is your son on?

@Curtislees'mom, I started to crack and then something kicked, I held the tears until the call was over.  More than anything we need to act strong for them and that's what my husband told me.

@headyless is that phone on vibrate?  lol

Got a 6 minute phone call from my son! He sounded tired, but is doing ok. They got their first mail yesterday and said they could write this Sunday!

I received my call from my son on 2/2. He was very down said he has been sick since he got there. He says he was having a hard time with some of the tests. Boy, I hope this gets better for him. he sounded very homesick. Trying to keep positive.

BarbRags - Thanks for the info. I won't get my hopes up but sure would love to hear from him. I missed his "I'm here & fine" call, but that won't happen again. My phone has been in my bra ever since. LOL

REPOST:

There is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks after their arrival for Security Clearance info. I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! (My son asked for two more names along with their phone number and address. Sometimes you may be asked to fax the info but he was told to get it from me right then.).So... if your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information...800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's (the list goes on!), anyone that handles confidential info...have a list of references by the phone.

This is a short business call and is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.

The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!

Also, if you receive a call from your SR (at any time...not just the Security Call) and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble.

@headyless we are also ship 13 div 128 and also had 3 names.  They may be calling home on Saturday.  We can ask then.  I spoke to my son briefly today he needed names numbers and addresses for his security clearance and at the end he said I'll call Saturday.
