~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My son left from Dallas on the 28th.  I haven't gotten the box or the letter.  His recruiter said he is on Ship 12, Div 130 scheduled to graduate on March 22nd.

My son left from Houston on the 23rd. I got "the box" on Monday, but haven't gotten the letter. According to his recruiter, he is on Ship 13, Div 127 and should be graduating on March  22nd.

Logan:  Your SR can order the PIR DVD when ordering their formal pictures, so be sure to write and ask your SR to do this.  It may save you waiting in line on PIR day to order the DVD

I'm confused on the girls sending back their wallets...you are the second one I have read about doing that in the past two days.  Normally they are allowed to keep their wallets.  Strange.  When you write to your SR, maybe ask about that and post here so we know if they have changed a rule.  Thanks!

Good Morning All !

SECURITY CLEARANCE INFORMATION PHONE CALLS:

There is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks after their arrival for Security Clearance info. I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! (My son asked for two more names along with their phone number and address. Sometimes you maybe asked to fax the info but he was told to get it from me right then.).So... if your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information...800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's (the list goes on!), anyone that handles confidential info...have a list of references by the phone.

This is a short business call and is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.

The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!

Also, if you receive a call from your SR (at any time...not just the Security Call) and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble.

Hello All,

Another veteran mom here to join the fun.:)

My sons PIR was just shy of a year ago, he stayed in GL for A School, and has just received his orders to Japan. He is looking forward to that, especially since that is one of two places his grandpa was stationed when he was in the Navy.

Logan7817,

Yes, they did change the policy for PIR not too long ago.  Anyone over the age of three does have to be on the guest list. The number of guests allowed can also be different. Four guests for TG with 12 divisions or less, and 3 guests for TGs with 13 or more divisions. \

Nick's mom,

Most PIR dates are on Friday, there are a few exceptions to the rule, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas etc. I am guessing that your son is leaving GL for A School. If that is the case then what the recruiter said would probably mean the 22nd of March is when your son graduates from PIR, and the 23rd would be the current scheduled time for him to leave GL.

Logan7817,

Take all three boys if you can, remember if your SR is staying in GL for A School, you will probably have all weekend, and if she is leaving for A School somewhere else you will still have the rest of  Friday with her.

Thanks for the reply, I think we will take the advice of buying the dvd and taking the whole family to Florida when she's at A school, to see her there with everyone who wasn't able to attend her ceremony. And it seems she kept everything that was in her wallet, she just sent an empty wallet. Love the Countdown clock! and the current weather widget, poor baby, its cold out there!

AlaskanSailorMom:  The cell will come back in the box....even if by itself.

NicksMom:  I believe that there is a mistake in the PIR date listed as 03/23.  It should be 03/22.  They don't usually have them on Saturdays.  RTC should have the date posted on their site next week so it will be confirmed then.

Yes, Logan, your daughter should have been able to keep the wallet, but they get pretty flustered when having orders shouted out at them and many times they send back things they could have kept.  She can buy stamps there at the NEX or you can mail them back to her in a letter...she shouldn't need the ID or ss card so you can just give her the wallet with those at PIR.

As far as the change in the PIR guest requirements, sigh....yes, that changed as of January 2013.  So very sad for so many families.  They no longer let in extra guests either...another change.  Be sure to order the PIR DVD if your SR doesn't.  The ones who can't go will enjoy watching that.  So sorry about the changes affecting your family...and you can no longer put your "extras" on another sailor's list who has space.  If someone is not on the sailor's PIR list, they are not allowed on base.  The lists will be in your form letter and will be updated by your sailors a week before PIR.

Hello everyone!

I received my daughters box on 1-29, and her form letter today 1-31. in her box were her clothes minus her big coat and warm boots she took, I had told her to donate the bulky stuff. I was a bit surprised she also sent her slim wallet that I read she could take for her id and ss card and stamps. She sent the wallet empty. She was able to keep her small prayer book, because she did not send that back. On her form letter they have a correction made to the guest requirement .Children 3 and older as well as active duty, retired, and military personnel with valid id DO count toward the max number of guest and DO need to be listed. That just put a dent in my plans on taking all my 3 boys since my youngest is 11 he was not going to be required on the list, so we have to make a decision as who cant see their big sister graduate. :(

Confused, my sons recruiter told me his PIR date is 3/22 with a final graduation date of 3/23 (in his computer). Got my official letter to day and my son wrote his PIR is 3/23....thought they were only held on Fridays?  Can anyone explain this?  Trying to figure out what days to stay for PIR?  Thanks -
