~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

purplecrayon, Your son would not have personally earned a flag. There are division flags, and your sailor can personally earn a marksmanship ribbon for pistols.
Lala - Will pray for them. Hard to understand why these things happen.
Oh Lala- That is just awful!! I am so sorry and will certainly keep them in my prayers!!!!!!
Thanks Diannep- I also make them pay for six months of car insurance- up front- before getting their license. As they have been growing up I made them save a portion of every dollar earned (or received) and a portion had to be donated. I just felt that it was my duty to raise citizens that felt a responsibility to help those less fortunate. My daughter always asks for donations at her birthday parties in lieu of gifts. My son was not keen on that idea- haha! Of course, as a boy, he lost interest in parties years ago! I think that raising children is the hardest job in the world and try hard to do my best. Some things worked and some didn't. However, they know that I mean business and that no one will fight for them (when they are right) more than their mama! I had my son start an IRA before he left. Our bank will deduct money on the 5th of each month. Just a little to start with and hopefully he will increase it each year. Your tattoo story made me chuckle! I have made a deal with him that he will receive money each year that he shows up and is still tattoo free! He doesn't like them and said that it will be the easiest money ever, but I want to make sure he is thinking about that if ever a buddy tries to talk him into it!! I also made him read an article about how much it hurts to have them removed! The funniest thing is that his current girlfriend has two tiny ones. Of course, he told her that I hate tattoos! She didn't seem at all offended and we adore her- two tiny tattoos and all!
I like your plan as well. Handling money is an important life lesson! Oh, I also got a credit card with him(I had to co-sign) but he is not allowed to have a card. I charge one or two things a month on it and pay it and it establishes good credit for him. The banker said that it doesn't matter who writes the checks for payments- just that it shows it is always paid on time.
So, I am about to zip up my suitcase! Can't believe the time is finally here!!! I am so very thankful to the moms who have helped me through this time. All of you new ones....the time will pass quickly once you start to hear from your SR...then just keep telling yourself that they are too busy to write - so if you get a letter it will be a wonderful treat!!!! Good luck!!!!
For those who believe in the power of prayer could you please keep my Sailor/son-in-law's family in your prayers. His cousin and three of his 4 children are missing in the mudslide in WA. He was with the kids while his wife was at work when the mudslide took away their home. Their 4 year old was rescued and taken to the hospital and reunited with his mom. There are so many people missing and many families waiting for news. I am sure they can use all the prayers they can get. Thanks so much, we appreciate all of you very much <3
Yes, momof4- that is the date that my son gave me in a letter last week. I hope he catches us tomorrow during our travels!
i thought my son said he earned a "flag". not sure that is what he said. if so, will we get notified before PIR?
There is a page on the flags and pennants the divisions can earn while in BC. It is located in the "PAGES" which are on the right side of this main wall under the member photos.
did anyone get notification that their SR earned a flag for 119?
