Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Rows girl: hi :-) my SR is doing A school in Pensacola.  We thought he was flying out on saturday morn- according to what he wrote yesterday he said sunday now. I really hope that is true- that would mean one extra day ;0) he is div 807 ship 04

Daphne, you are doing the right thing.  They are under enough stress it the best thing you can do for your SR. I am so sorry for your loss.

Daphne: im so sorry to hear. I honestly feel that at this point, I would not tell my son. Only because really there is nothing they can do . i think your daughter will understand why you didn't tell her. I feel so bad for you. So many emotions right now. Stay strong !

Daphne: so sorry for your loss, such sad news. I believe you are making the right choice by not telling your SR. These last two weeks are stressful enough. Think of what her aunt would've wanted you to do. You and your family are in my prayers.

Daphne- so sorry to hear that. To ease your mind. My son was very specific on his request. He told me unless it was his very immediate family meaning myself or his sisters.... Please do not give him bad news while in boot camp. He said he did not want extra stress. Hope this helps. And again sorry for your loss.

Sorry for my absence. We've had a death in the family. My dear sister-in-law lost her battle with cancer at the age of 47. It's been a struggle, but my husband and I have decided not to tell our daughter just now. This close to the end of basic, we don't want any excess stress on her. I feel so guilty for not letting her know. Someone please tell me I'm doing the right thing.... :-(

CourtRenee, bless your heart! I haven't gotten a letter since last Thursday. I'm glad you got to hear from him! Praying the wind stops soon!

one more thing, WHAT in the world have you mommas/wives decided to bring your sailor for A school? obviously cell phone, electric razor & his own boxers, but I keep seeing some say they did bring their sailors a few of their fav. comfy clothes, shoes so as they phase up they have them ( & we don't have extra $$ for him to go buy all new stuff, so that's why I'm wondering if I should bring him now?) also I've seen people mention bring them white tee shirts? even forks & stuff? I'm sure they are provided with basic utensils right?

I got a couple letters today too, woo hoo!! thank The Lord! he sounds so great & so happy, I am so happy for him, for us!! :) can't wait to see him, he's SO ready to see us I know that! it has been a crazy day here, trees fell around our house due to these straight line winds, a tree shattered my whole front windshield, & we are still without power, blah! so the letters were definitely the 'up' part to my day :)
