For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hope everyone is smiling today, because in only 26 days we get to hug our sailor's, can't wait!!
This time has gone by so fast compared to how long I thought it would be!!

I have a question... at the meet & greet how do we know each other, like who is who? just go around and mingle!!>!?!

Comment by MelissaPatrick'sMom on March 3, 2013 at 12:56am: SK2Sailor, It sounds like the same group. Patrick was in NJROTC for four years in high school and he has little tolerance for the talkers! He is having dental surgery 3/12. I thought that would have been done the first 1-1.5 weeks when they were waiting to fill their division. He doesn't really sound like he is dreading it as much as he hated going to the dentist at home. He said the silver lining of all the IT is that he is down to 3% body fat!

Comment by SK2Sailor on March 2, 2013 at 11:16pm: MelissaPatrick'sMom...I think our sons may be in the same division (134). He said they have IT a lot, and even ITE, because of all the talking! He says some guys just don't get it! :) When I asked him if he had to get his wisdom teeth pulled, he said "no, unfortunately"!? I asked why "unfortunately" and he said that when they are doing IT all the time and he sees the guys who get to lay in bed for two days because of pulled teeth, he wishes it was him! :)

Comment by diannep on March 2, 2013 at 6:31pm: Yes, years ago, I had been told that the sailors were allowed to come to the "Family Night" which was held the night before PIR. Sadly, not the case anymore. You will have to wait until PIR to see your sailor.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on March 2, 2013 at 3:21pm: No, sorry, the Sailors do not get to come to the Meet and Greet. You won't see them until PIR. And no that is not a dumb question. There are no dumb questions :) In fact I believe that years ago they did get to go to the meet and greet.
