N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just some info. I am staying at Navy Lodge and just called to change the reservation to my SR's name (as my sponsor) I was informed he will not have to go to the Navy Lodge to verify anything. Also she stated that the Navy Lodge is under construction and there may be some noise during the daytime hours.

awe- thanks so much for that info! just the thought brings tears to my eyes.

They should be allowed to come to your hotel room with no problem at all. The only problems anyone has experienced is at the Gateway Inn. And you can only stay there if you have the proper military or DOD ID. So very few families stay there. You should be fine and the Sailors can hang out in your room, take a nap, take a nice long shower or whatever. Some, like my daughter can't wait to get off that base and see what they have been missing lol. So we went to the Mall and out to eat and had a wonderful time. There were tons of Sailors and families at the mall :)

hi~ :-) im not staying at navy lodge-im staying at marriott residence waukegan. i was just making sure they are alowed to come hang out with us off base? thanks

Comment by MartiB_TX on February 19, 2013 at 9:37am

Lavendergrl8 I asked that question yesterday and was told by DianneP that it is Gateway that we need to stay away from.  In fact I think you make your reservation in your sailor recruit's name and they are supposed to check in with the front desk sometime during your stay.  So you are fine staying at Navy Lodge

uh oh- im reading all the comments and wondering? if im not staying at the navy lodge does that mean my son can't come to the room with us and hang out? thanks :-)

Syntia my sil wants to stay at days inn becasus it has a jacuzzi  and he thinks my daughter would enjoy that, lol.  Hope it works as I have stayed places that advertise that but then they don't work.

CourtRenee we are renting as well.  I think my s-i-l said that he also reserved a car seat from the car rental place so we didn't have to bring ours from home.

Hi MartiB, when I booked my stay at NAVY Lodge, the rate was flat $66.00 no taxes, no extras up to 6 people, that are allowed in a 2 bed room. Also, there seems to be larger rooms with kitchenettes and room for a bigger family for $71.00.

My S-I-L decided he wanted to stay at Days Inn so got a room over there - it is pretty close to RTC as well.  Hope to meet some of you ladies at graduation - it has been awesome getting such great information.  just 38 more days until our kids graduate:)

Comment by CourtRenee on February 19, 2013 at 12:44am

MartiB TX- I am definitely renting a car because I do have 2 infants that fro safety reasons I will have to have their carseats installed at tall times!

DianneP- Thank you for all of the information! I MAY try to bring them in and I will definitely be sitting at the bottom, because I know for a fact they won't sit still long. They are just so young, they won't remember this... I want to go and be able to listen & enjoy my hubby graduating, this is SUCH a big deal for us !! :)
I may just have my mom bring them at about the end, so when he is allowed to come see me, the kids will be there too by then... I know that when I talked to my hubby he said it was my call, but that the graduation is a big deal and they didn't need to be running around, like they always do! lol
