OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I got the call!  Woohoo!  My SR sounded tired, said the first day was horrible due to no sleep, but he's OK now.  He was so tired he fell asleep getting his haircut!  He is getting used to the strict rules and attention to detail, which he said is the hardest thing he's had to do.  Said the physical part is easy, and that it is COLD!  Also said he hasn't gotten any mail, no one from his division has (Ship 2, Div. 920).  Asked a ton of questions about sports and how his teams are doing, and said he misses us, can't wait to see us.  Me too I told him!  I told him how proud we all are of him, and all the other SRs, and to hang in there, that I loved him and missed him and how he is doing something 99% of the rest of us don't have the courage, or ability, to do.

I'm so verklempt...glad to hear from him, happy he's OK, worried about him (Hey, I'm a Mom, that's how we roll haha) and can't wait to see him at PIR.  He's going to be carrying the FL flag -- wanted to carry NJ but apparently it's done by height -- but onto the really important stuff, what do we wear for PIR?  My usual wardrobe consists of sweatpants and hoodies...guess that's not appropriate!

I hope my Navy sisters have the pleasure of a call, it made my day! <3

Pobs:  I'm surprised that they were not given their first mail yesterday....usually they hold the mail until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained and then give it to the division on a Sunday for the first time.  Then...they will receive it M-F after that.

They should be receiving it by next Sunday, if not before then.

Mavis and I received calls from our sons about an hour or so ago!  They are both is division 920.  My son said they are all getting calls today so keep your phones near.  It was so great to hear from him.  He sounded good.  He said that they haven't received any mail yet.  He also told me that he's doing color guard for the 2 PIRs before 3/29 and theirs on 3/29.  He will be holding the POW flag.  Now I know exactly what to look for!  What a great Monday.  I'm so glad I got to talk to him.  He even called his dad and talked to him for a few minutes...awesome!

Daphne:  Checkout Southwest Airlines if they service your area.  They fly into Chicago-Midway and Milwaukee.  There is no change fee if you need to change for any reason, and 2 bags check for free.  They offer special rates many times also.

Hello NAVY family,
We would like to share our EXHILARATION at having received a 33 minutes phone call from our SR in Ship 02 DIV 920! He is in good spirits, depised having been ill. He coughed about 5 times during our conversation :'(
I wanted to give him hot chicken soup and some honey.
Our SR tell us he is doing ok in PT, but needs to decrease his running time. He feels things will get better once he feels more recovered and is able to run without that cough. Also, he had to have all four of his wisdom teeth removed (despise having perfect teeth, our dentist was so proud of him, no brases were needed when he was growing up).
A great piece of information, he is in the color guard and the static did not let me hear exactly which postion.
This call was well worth the wait! We love our SR and we are so very proud of him (he is our only child). Thank you for reading, GOD bless you.

I got a call from my SR! Yay! He is the 920 division. I didn't ask if everyone is getting a call, but I'm sure they are! He hasn't received any mail yet, but they were able to write for the first time yesterday. Looking forward to getting a real letter this week!

Gatorfan:  Chicago has some pretty horrific traffic!  Midway is about an hour from GL in normal times.  With traffic, it is longer.

If you decide not to rent a car, you can always schedule with Sarge's taxi service.  He is wonderful with that and gives a discount to Navy families.  If you can "team up" with other families coming into the airport when you do and share one of his cabs, it is cheaper for all of you. I will start a discussion above for that....

Renting a car is still cheaper in the long run if you will be driving around during the weekend (I'm assuming your sailor will be staying in GL for A School since you talked about picking him up?).

Sarge will transport to/from PIR for free if he picks up from the airport--from what I have heard.  The regular taxis in GL tend to be pretty expensive (other than the ones operating PIR morning as the "shuttle service" in which case it is $3/pp each way).

If you decide to forgo the car rental, Sarge can arrange to pick up your sailor on GL A School base.  Again, he is cheaper than the local cabs are with this service.  Here is his number if you want to text/call him about it:

847 212 0246 (Sarge)

I will start a "carpooling from the airports" discussion above.

Received a call yesterday but to my surprise it was not from my SR. Hmmm it was from a girl named Alexa telling me she just spoke to my son and he is doing well and really likes his div and, well, all kinds of info. This was my son's first call home and he called a girlfriend I didn't even know existed. He never stops surprising me. All that said at least I know he is well and thriving. It's all good. I can't wait to see him.

I have a question I am flying into Chicago Midway.  I was thinking about renting a car, how is the traffic?  Also, if by some off chance I get to send the day with my sailor on Saturday.  How do I pick him up if I don't have a car.  Taxi?
