For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Sandra (MA Mom) on February 18, 2013 at 6:23pm: We are also starting to plan our trip back to GL. Our son is Ship 13 Division 40....anyone else with a SR in this division?

We haven't received his form letter yet, but he was able to call on Saturday and then again Sunday, which shocked us. He was able to just tell us his address and PIR date so that I could quit stalking the mailman.

Keep your phones on you at all times!! The one time I didn't is when he called and it quit ringing just as I picked up. It came through as an 847 area code and said PAY PHONE. I ran around the house yelling for my husband asking where his phone was and sure enough, my son called his phone next. The only good thing about missing his call is that I now have a really cute voicemail on my phone from him lecturing me about not answering my phone...lol.

Comment by SoCal Ohana on February 18, 2013 at 2:34pm: I still have not had a chance to mail out my letters - have a stack of 12 sitting next to me that will go out Tuesday. Got my form letter on Sat (no mail going out - no mail going on sun - monday holiday...) Tuesday will finally be sending them! No phone calls yet. I yell at my husband every time I catch him without his phone! :)

Comment by diannep on February 18, 2013 at 11:31am: Just to let you all know that most of the hotels will use the PIR shuttle service, which are actually taxis operating as shuttles that day. It is $3/pp each way, and your sailor can return with you....IF they are not staying at GL for A School. In that case, they will be moving over there (by bus) shortly after PIR is over. They will call you after several hours to pick them up over there.

The ones flying out for A School will be the ones who can leave RTC with you.

It is near the Courtyard Inn and Residence Inn, next to the Walmart shopping center, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet. The MeetandGreets are held the night before PIR for all families---there are 3 of them. This Springhill is only about 4-5 miles from RTC and they have the PIR shuttle service.

Makes me feel like I'm not alone and that most of my feelings are shared by others! I too, missed my sons phone call on Saturday, first time EVER my husband and I went to go see a movie together and when I got out, seen 3 missed calls and 2 voicemails and one missed call/voicemail on my husbands phone too, broke my heart! Was eager to mail out two letters today and forgot its Presidents Day, feeling kind of down....but at least I can replay his messages to hear his voice, right! I do have a question, I received the PIR letter on Saturday, my son mispelled my husband and I last name, is that going to be an issue? He left out a vowel.....
