Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

But now I need your help please! There is a recruit in my son's division who has received no mail, nor does he have expectations of getting any. I think we all know how important letters have been to our SRs. If we could each send this young man one or two letters over the next three weeks I think we could really do somthing special for him.

Vet Moms: I am guessing it would be innappropriate for me to post this SR's info here, but if others want to friend me would it be okay to give them the info that way?

Thanks in advance for any of you able to take on this task! I am sending a letter out for this recruit today.

Here is the number again 847 688-2405.

Back in October 2012 they made changes to guest policy just a week to ten days before a PIR (that's when they started the shift to the new policy Jan 1.) So, now, because if that I have to say that yes, they can change things even after the Form Letters have been sent PIR as far as guests go.
Maybe asking on the RTC FB page is good too. PAO moderates it when they can.

Comment by gksailormom on March 8, 2013 at 1:49am: I got 2 letters today!!1 YEAH!! He sent one to his sister, grandma and uncle too! It is great to hear from him! I am anxious for the next phone call hoping he is feeling better. He's been sent to SIQ-guess that is the sick ward.... a few times-still the pnuemonia-upper respitory infection. Says its very difficult breathing for his PT's. The mom in me will never stop worrying.

4 weeks from tomorrow everyone!!!!! I love the countdown clock.

Comment by diannep on March 7, 2013 at 11:13pm: Someone needs to call Public Affairs tomorrow to double check the info the SRs are reporting about the 3 guests. According to the link below, 4 guests should be allowed. Please call and then post on here what you are told:

Comment by SRMom on March 7, 2013 at 9:23pm: @SoCalOhana. Yeah, I got a call last Sat a well but was surprised to hear from her on Tuesday. That's when she said they won't be allowed to call for awhile - because of training. I got a letter from her today for her son.
