Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Comment by gksailormom on March 2, 2013 at 12:11am: lilmary-my son is in ship 04 div 808. I hope they only say that to the SR to be hard but give them calls later. I keep praying.

LalaRibbon-what great ideas for the younger siblings. Heck, I am not little but a paper chain sounds fun and the quarter in a jar...both sound like good idears for me and my 13 year old.

If you have little ones at home there are several things you can do to make this journey a little easier for the, Make a paper chain with a link for each day they have left in boot camp and let them remove one link each day. It will help them see that this is only temporary. Other have also put a quarter in a jar for every day left and each week allowed the child/children to use the money for an ice-cream cone or even for a special card to send to their recruit, gumballs or gummy bears in a jar work well too and they get a tiny little treat each day. So many things can make it a better experience for them :) Have a wonderful weekend :)

Having a down day here, but you ladies help me out with that. Hoping to hear from my daughter again this weekend. Not leaving this house for any reason this weekend, so i don't miss a call, just in case. I would be so upset if I was to go to wal-mart and missed a call.

Comment by diannep on March 1, 2013 at 8:19pm: Yes, if a SR is "asmoed" (setback) for any reason, you will be called (scripted call telling you a new PIR date). My sailor went through this. So....go on the NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!

Comment by SoCal Ohana on March 1, 2013 at 7:39pm: That is a great idea MommaB :) We are actually using a WordPress blog (set on private) for her letters - that was the format is the same - we update and print and done :) Then she can toss them and they are still here - except the handwritten parts of course!

We've gotten our hotel and booked our flights today (thanks to my SR's uncle it only cost us $117 plus a flight to FLA for golf later this year---which will end up being half of what the tickets would have been otherwise.). Next I'll have to get with Sarge about shuttles to and from the Ramada and whatever airport my SR flies out of on Saturday.
