For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by lilmary on February 28, 2013 at 10:49pm: Wow.my daughter left for Great Lakes on Feb.11th and so far I have received 1 phone call, last Saturday. I got my first letter today. I have a letter and a card ready to go out tomorrow for her.

Comment by gksailormom on February 28, 2013 at 10:49pm: YEAH!! I got a letter!!! So did my daughter, my SR's little sister. She is feeling very special right now! She misses him A LOT!!! It was good to hear from him. Sounds a little down but also said he's been really sick so hopefully he will start feeling better soon and his spirits will pick up!

sher85 our sons are in the same division and I have booked at the Ramada Inn and going to book at Sarge's. I am very excited to meet some of the families of the other SR's that my son will be on this journey with! Please let me know if where you book and I look forward to meeting you in April!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on February 28, 2013 at 10:45pm: You do not need to RSVP for Graduation. The Guests that your SR listed on the Form Letter that was sent home are your SR's intended Guests for PIR.

About 7-10 Days before PIR the Recruits fill out a Final Guest list for the ACCESS List for PIR for Security. This Access List is the one that Security uses to check folks into PIR not the Form Letter. The Form Letter is strictly for the recipient to know who the Recruits inteneded Guests are. IF there are any changes that need to be made to the Guests then please write your Recruits and let them know.

Once the Final Access List is submitted there can be no changes or substitutions.

I'm praying for the rest of you that haven't gotten your first letter yet..such a relief when you do. It's both a comfort to hear others are getting them and yet it's hard too when your waiting. I figured it took a little longer to get here (4 days) because of the weather. Hang on!
