For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by SalemPrideShip02Div921 on February 23, 2013 at 7:30pm: Well everyone, she came through surgery like a real trooper. They completed it an hour and a half sooner than they expected to. The surgeon said that all of the vessels that they used were excellent and that her heart muscle was in good shape. Just those nasty blockages. She was off of the respirator about an hour sooner than they had planned and she was resting as she was slowly coming out of it. Thank you for your suppor and prayers. Also, NO LETTER TODAY. Not even a piece of stinking junk mail! The mailman hates me, I just know it.

Comment by Sandra (MA Mom) on February 23, 2013 at 7:23pm: I just got a call as well. He had just got done doing drills and was able to call. Said things are going well, but it sounds like he has a cold and said his whole division seems to be sick.

If there are any other Ship 13 Division 140 moms that get calls...remind our boys they need to get along and do their best. My SR said they've been told that if they don't shape up, their PIR date could be moved back. I'm hoping that they are only saying this to get the boys in shape and not actually considering doing it. Ughhhh.

On a good note though....he passed his PT test....yah!!!!

On another note, I'm still actually waiting for my form letter. I have received a couple hand written letters...so I'm very happy about that and he's received a couple of our letters as well.

We were out to eat for my daughters bday so he got to talk to everyone....said'sorry i didnt write yet Mom...i'm going to". Oh i love him! He said siv 139 has so work ahead of them.... but he sounded really good! Just a heads up. Keep those phones close!

I hope to be getting letters from him soon and hopefully mine wills start arriving to him any day. I think hope that will lift his spirits. This is a good test of his morale before his swcc prep and he long road ahead of him.

How long did it take to for your son to get your letters?

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on February 23, 2013 at 1:39pm: That is pretty much normal swcc, some will get an extra day to write near the end of boot camp and some will write a little each night, kind of like a journal, and then send it all out on Monday. I actually have some SWCC bumper stickers that were given to me by my daughter's recruiter. If you send me your address in a personal message (don't post it) I will be happy to send one to you for free :)
