N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Mine asked for a wristwatch. I am sending a cheap one that's water proof.

Mgmom:  I wouldn't send him anything unless he asks for something, like supplies he may need.  He can get most at the NEX with his supply card but may want a special brand.  Wait for him to ask you if you should send anything.  Remember they like to fly under the radar with their RDCs and pkgs have to be opened in front of the RDCs so they are not advised.  They also have limited storage space.

Suggestion on sendig piks:  Best to scan them onto the backs of your letters or a separate sheet of paper.  Easier to store.

Another letter today (ship 12 Div 152) yeah!
He said I could send him a package as long as it didn't have food or anything "he isn't allowed to have on military base". Anyone have ideas what I can and should send him?

You only need ship # and division#, with the rest of the address.

The ship name, and Recruit Training Command are not necessary.

Here are the basics on mail at the RTC.

Mail is received at the main base postal facility (not the RTC) three times a day. From there it is sorted, to what ever part of the base it goes to. The mail to the RTC, approx 5800 pieces a day, is then delivered to the RTC mail room where it is sorted by ship. Once in the ships "mail room" the mail is sorted by the recruit mail petty officers by divisions, and delivered.

Now, If a letter is sent early, before the form letter is sent, which is after the recruits have moved to their ship for training, or before the RMPO (recruit mail petty officer) is trained the mail to that division is basically put in a bag to wait.

The first mail to be sorted daily at the ship is the mail that has just arrived, then it's the mail that is waiting. It can take a few days after the RMPO is trained for the mail to get all caught up, but it will happen.

The most important thing on the envelope is the proper ship and division number, and of course the recruits name. How their name on the envelope is written, last, first, middle initial, while important is not going to cause much of a delay, if any, if it isn't in the "proper form".

Here is a link to an article on the whole process.

RTC Mail

I would guess that the mail should all be straightened out and delivered soon, if it hasn't already happened. Sounds like several of your recruits may get a stack of mail handed to them at a mail call soon.

Hang tight ladies!!! :)

Thank you LivvieLewWho! I believe our last name is pretty uncommon.

Got our first letter today! ! So happy to hear he's doing good. He sounded really positive! !

I just realized that the letter I sent my son was not properly addressed as shown on graduation letter.  I just addressed it with his first and last name but on the letter it says to address it as SR LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, MI.  Does this mean he isn't going to get his letter?  Do I need to resend it?

@Dani1324 My husband told me the same thing (that he hasn't received anything), but that mail gets passed out everyday. It's heartbreaking to read your husband say "I've been hoping everyday when mail is passed that I get a letter from you" when I write him everyday!

Comment by NavyWifeInTraining on March 10, 2016 at 7:39pm

I received my first letter from my husband today (He is on Ship 06/Div 153). It broke my heart to read that he hasn't receive any letters at all, and asks why I haven't written him and to read that he feels so alone :( I have sent a total of 21 letters (13 letters written from me and 8 written from family members) since Feb 26th. It hurts to hear that he hasn't receive not even ONE! In his letter he says that they receive mail everyday....so I don't understand what is going on....

I would really like some answers if anyone could help...
