Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Leach73, Your recruit is technically still a SR until graduation, after graduation is when it will change. How you address them after graduation will depend on rate and rating.

Hello to all!
Anita - to decorate my hotel door, I will be making a poster with some images that I printed out from the web, such as the Navy logo (seal), anchors, stars...i bought some patriotic wire garland to go around the door frame, a small US flag and I will use a picture of her that we took at her going away party and I will write a message on the poster. I called the Navy Lodge to ask what they allow and she said anything and we can use tape on the doors.
btw - what is the proper way to address them now? are they still SR (Seaman Recruit)?? Anyone know?

My SR told me he ordered $250.00 worth of pics, the DVD and the yearbook. LOL We will be packing up and heading out Wednesday night so hopefully if he mailed the pics, they come soon.

I tried to order The Keel the week after my son's PIR and was told it was too late. So if your SR didn't order it with the pictures (Pkg A includes it if they ordered that one), then you would need to order right after PIR.

Let's hope your SR already paid for the pics and will already have them to give to you himself after PIR! If the Keel (yearbook) and PIR dvd was ordered at the same time, you will receive them in the mail about 6 weeks later or more. If not, I know you can order the PIR dvd over the phone the week after PIR, but not sure about the Keel. The Keel is mostly stock photos of various recruits at RTC, except for the group Division sections, which are of the ones graduating that week~~

SpencersMom: If your son paid for the pictures, he can either mail them home (which would mean they should be on their way and arrive in the next day or so)...or....he can hold them there and give them to you after PIR. If he did not pay for them, you pay for them in the PhotoLab/NEX after PIR and get them then. You can order the DVD then....but I believe you can order the DVD later....call the Photo Lab and ask about that 847 578 6205

Anyone staying at the Navy Lodge that plans on going to the airport early in the morning? if so what time are you going? My husband says if their flight doesn't leave until later in the day we'll go later in the morning.
