Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Liz: Not sure if your sailor will be moving over to GL A School base or flying out the next day, but you can actually return to RTC later on Fri afternoon to handle the ordering of the pictures. We got that advice from a man in an earlier PIR group....they left the base, had lunch with their sailor, etc....and returned mid afternoon to NO line at the NEX/:Photo Lab. So that is an option for you....just wanted you to know that you don't have to wait until Saturday to do it...you can do it on Friday if you want.

Liz,
Did you ask your SR if he ordered the pics or dvd? You can order the dvd on the Monday after you get back home, (that is, if he ordered pics but not the PIR dvd). If you want to miss the crowds, you can just leave with your Sailor (if he is not having A school at Great Lakes), then come back before the Photo Lab closes on that Saturday to look at the proofs and order the pics. You can also order the PIR dvd then.. It should be empty/less crowded then. Here's the Photo Lab's number 847-578-6205.
