Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hello all!
I got a letter from my SR yesterday! Did the happy dance and cried tears of joy! As I read it, I could hear her voice say each word to me. Overall says she is ok. One thing that she did mention was that she had to get her hair chopped off some more and that other girls in her Div. have and wear make-up. Now Im wondering how? did they take it with them and were allowed to keep it or was it sent to them? I did read on this website that usually 2-3 weeks before PIR it is ok to send a little bit of make-up i.e. foundation, eyeliner, mascara. I know she would want to be a little made-up at least for picture day...does anyone know when this usually takes place? thanks!

@Rainermom, no he didn't. But what was cool, was the fact that his letters came in the form of journal entries...which gave a "moment to moment" view on his life thus far! I was so happy to read that he still had his sense of humor...even if he doesn't show it to his commanders! :-))

Hi ladies! Hope everyone had a good day! I got home from working to find two letters waiting for me from my Sailor boy! I was so excited! All that worrying I have done over the last few days, to find out today, he's just fine!! Everything is going well, and I am so happy for him and proud of him! They have given him a nickname... the "hitman" ...but as he explained, it's a GOOD thing, not a bad thing!!
I hope only good things for each of you, for your hearts to be calm, and peace for your sailors!
