OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The only way to travel into Chicago is on the train. No parking hassle or payment, no traffic to deal with etc. The train fares were $3 one way, $6 round trip or $7 for an unlimited weekend pass.

The train schedule is posted, so check what time you need to return and count on at least an hour on the train.

Many like to take the train into Chicago after PIR.  The station is right next to RTC.  They should have about 8-9 hours of liberty, so timing shouldn't be a problem.  They get a military discount on the train...and for those there through the weekend, I believe they have a special weekend rate for the train.

But, yes, many do like to see Chicago on PIR Day!  Just allow plenty of time to return and you will be fine!  Enjoy!

Here's some reassurance for you all~~

Hi Tinkerbell, when my son PIR'd I know a LOT of talk went around about going to Chicago. Most people decided there just wasn't enough time though some did. As it turned out, many of the SR's, when it came down to it, just wanted a good meal out with the people they loved (usually pizza but mine had been craving Thai the whole time, lol!) We went on down with Sailor's fiancee, to check out Chicago after he flew out on Saturday. She's in this PIR group so maybe she's put ideas in their heads :)

Good morning/afternoon everyone!! We are at 14 days so 2 weeks from this date and time and we will be on our way to see our new SAILORS!!! I'm so excited!!!

Question for our veterans on here. My SR asked about going to Chicago for his Liberty but I am not sure if that would be a good idea as I would hate for him to be late to sign back in. My thought it's Friday and we could get caught in traffic. What is your advice?
