OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I hadn't heard of the meet and greet. Could you fill me in a little?
Comment by Emjay on March 15, 2015 at 11:38pm

Lanora- my son is Ship 13, but a different Division. Oleandar- what is Damage Control? Kim- my son will be at GL for A school and we just made our reservation at the Navy Lodge. Diannep- so glad to hear they have resolved issues and we can stay there. Anyone thinking of going to the 4/30 Sarge Meet and Greet? How far is it from GL?

Thank you for the information on hotels diannep! It helps to have some useful information to go on! Can you tell me hiw long until we know what A school our child will be going to? He sent his form letter to his girlfriends address so I am not sure how much info I am actually getting. Besides the phone call I got the other morning which I was THRILLED about!
Comment by diannep on March 15, 2015 at 11:18pm

Kim:  They have resolved the issue with Navy Lodge and A School so please feel free to stay there.

Other good hotels are:  Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard and Holiday Inn Express.  Please call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad discount.

Welcome to the new members here!

SelenaNavyWife:  They usually cannot write to you for the first 2 weeks of Bootcamp, until their Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained for the divisions.  Any mail sent to them is held from them also.  The only mail you should get right now would be the form letter and the box of their belongings....both coming to you within the first 2 weeks of Bootcamp.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site. I still haven't received any mail, I hope it comes soon so I can send my husband letters and pictures of our son. I did however get my first call yesterday. It was great to finally hear his voice.

I am new to this group. My sons PIR is 5/1. At this point I do not know where he will be going for A school. He sent his GF the form letter. Which hotels are you staying at? I have heard the Navy Lodge is a good place and to avoid the Ramada but that is all I have.
