Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

for
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Blessed Sunday!
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill
cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp
and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its
stand, and it give light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds and praise
your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:14-16

Remember there are no dumb questions, so ask away!
Just got my son's letter. He is also headed to South Carolina for the Power School. He is Div 166. Thank you for making this group available. Resources are exceptional, thank goodness for social media. It's such a comforting community! =)
You are too funny, ellen. Fess up.....you wore that to your sailor's PIR....just to see what reaction you would get from the crowd!
Hello and welcome to your PIR group!
My son graduated BC in April of 2012. He is an ET3 (Electronics Technician), stayed in GL for A School, and headed to C School in San Diego. He has also returned to San Diego for additional equipment training since C School. He is currently forward-deployed, and is attached to an amphibious ship..."Gator Navy". :)
I am another that is here to help. Ask all the questions you may have, there are no dumb questions....wait a minute there can be.
Please don't ask if wearing a hot pink push up bra (or any other color for that matter) under the sheer white blouse you bought for PIR is OK. You will either be ignored, told to change your wardrobe, or laughed at hysterically from behind our computers then told, "NO it is not OK! What the he** are you thinking!!!... or maybe all three!!! LOL
