Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by missG on March 21, 2013 at 7:33pm: Hi Everyone, Yay, we too got our first letter, 2 pages, and she sounds like she is doing fine, a wee bit sick, but fine, and she has the 2 other gals she shipped out with in her compartment, one in the same division. Good.

and to TAN'S MOM : my girl is in 12/167 and going to Pensacola, Avionics is her job

Considering getting my son to write anything at all in the past was a chore, imagine my surprise when he wrote 3 pages! He actually asked for more addresses of family members so he could write to them as well. He sounds so good and so happy. He also mentioned the "peanut butter" shot, but said it wasn't as bad as his brother and his best friend made it sound. His only negative comment was about the cold which is understandable for a young man who has spent his whole life in Southern California.

Happy for the loved ones who have heard from their SR and to know they are doing fine.

Comment by TAN'SMOM(12/168) on March 21, 2013 at 5:57pm: I got my letter today!!! Super excited :-) He said he was doing "really great"! Talked about a shot called "peanut butter"...lol! Said he is enjoying seeing snow everyday...considering we are from North Texas. He said he took his swim test and it was actually kinda fun... :-) Hoped to go shooting next week. He said he looks forward to mail call, so keep writing...send pictures, ask questions and tell him what's going on back at home. Sounds like he is right on track to a great future. Made my heart happy...for sure! Gotta get back to writing those letters to my son. Hope other's received their comforting phone call and/or letters as well!

Was shocked when opened up mailbox and a nice fat letter from my son. He wrote a 8 page letter its so nice to here what day to day life is at boot camp. Hoping all moms get a letter today.
