~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just got a call from my son we got to talk for 15 minutes. He said he has been writing letters and on sunday he can start mailing them. He said he already did the swimming test. He sounded alittle home sick and told me to write longer letters. That was the best 15 minutes of my day.

navywife:  No, if you have military ID yourself, your sailor doesn't need to be with you.  This is Gateway and not Navy Lodge, right?  Gateway is on GL A School base.  Navy Lodge is 1.5 miles from RTC.  I'm assuming your sailor will be attending A School school in GL?  If not, you may want to stay at Navy Lodge instead.  Many of the sailors long to get "off of a base" since they have been at RTC for long....If he is staying in GL for A School, he will need to get a chit approved when he moves over there to visit you at Gateway.  We understand that there are special rules for that.

173/174 are brother divisions.  No problem.  They train together.  You address it the way you have been...to his specific division, although if you put 173/174, he will get them too. Here is how RTC tells you to address your letters:

Hi JakobMom4. . .Glad to hear from another mom with a son in the same division as my son. I am so looking forward to seeing my son @ PIR with the rest of the 925 division in their role as Ship Staff/Honor Guard. :)

got my letter today my husband wrote ship 3 div 173, his envelope said ship 11 div 173/174 so im totally lost i sent him letters already..written with ship11 div 173...does anyone know if he'll get them?? totally lost.

also when i made my reservation at Gateway Inn.... i will have a military ID does my sailor have to be with us??

Comment by diannep on March 15, 2013 at 9:15pm

rachel:  Do you have military ID to stay at Gateway Inn?  Because you will need military ID to stay there--I understand being sponsored by your sailor can be a bit of a pain (we have heard this from some who work at GL A School---there are rules for the GL A School students re: the hotel).  I agree with ellen, I would stay at Navy Lodge over Gateway anyway.  There are base restrictions re: the hotel.  We get conflicting info about it.  Plus, as another veteran pointed out, your new sailor has been on a base for a long time....they are ready to visit at a hotel that is not on a base!  Navy Lodge is very close by.

Comment by diannep on March 15, 2013 at 9:13pm

msandi:  Well, guess what?  169/170 are brother divisions and train together, so it is almost like they did get the same division!  :-)

Yes, on hotel bookings, you usually can cancel this up until day of arrival, so no harm in booking hotel early.  Some of them may book up so it would be a good idea.

Yep, 4 guests per SR for this group!

missG:  They usually know by PIR week what airport they will be flying from.  As far as the shuttle to take, you may want to consider Sarge's.  He offers Navy discounts and you can share with other families which saves you all more money!
