OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

1proudmama, our son was going to open a navy account at RTC.  He has another account, but we decided it would be best to have a Navy Credit Union account as well, may save him on ATM fees at some time.  From what I know, he will not need a debit card while there, all items will be docked from his pay.  He will need it after graduation, if he does not set up a navy account.  Many more on this site with much better info than me.  Just throwing my two cents your way.  It has been 30 years since my boot camp days, I am sure most everything has changed since those days!

PIR=graduation!

1proudmama:  Sending the debit card is up to you, but he probably won't need it.  They are given a "supply card" to buy things at the NEX, which comes out of their pay.  It is a little risky to mail the debit card so you may want to wait and give it to him at PIR.  But you can ask him in a letter about it.

My son is on ship 12 div 167 and graduating 05-03-13 . Can't  wait to see him. Proud mom...

Ok march, Rtarbaby, 1 proudmama:  Your SRs are all training together!  They are in "brother divisions" (167/168) which will train together.  You may want to "friend" each other and get to know each other better by private messaging on here since your SRs are getting to know each other!  By the way, SR stands for:

Seaman Recruit

...which is what they all are!  Welcome to the group!

Sending phone card didn't send one with him didn't know. He has a debit card should I send it to him? Will he need it or just bring it up at graduation. Don't know if they can buy things while at boot-camp or do they just dock his pay for things he buys if anything?

Got our form letter yesterday, had a stack of letters ready to go.  I addressed 4 of them last night.  Woke up early this morning, headed for the main post office downtown.  I want to make sure the letters get to him by Friday.  Proud parents of ship 12, div 167 recruit, PIR 5/3/13.
