Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by sarmar927 on April 23, 2013 at 10:21pm: Thanks so much for the advice! My SR is staying in GL for A School...will we be able to drive back in our own car to the base to pick him up for Liberty (after he calls to say he is ready), even if we took the shuttle for the ceremony?

Comment by diannep on April 23, 2013 at 9:39pm: Be sure to sign up for the shuttle time you want when you check into your hotel. It is $3/pp each way and your sailor can return with you, as long as he/she is not staying in GL for A School. In that case, he/she moves over there right after PIR and several hours later, will call you to pick him/her up for Liberty from that base.

We left on the 6:30 shuttle from Residence, bypassed the car line (the shuttles all do that!), and were 2nd in line for security at 6:40. We were in the PIR Hall a few minutes after 7. We had 9 divisions in our group (11 in this one). There was already a good number of people in the hall....top row of bleachers (against the wall) and the first row in our division section were already taken.

If you are certain it only takes 2 days for your SR to receive your letters, then it is probably safe to send him his last letter on Monday the 29th. Even adding an extra day, he should receive it by Thursday, May 2nd. Otherwise, like Diannep pointed out, it will eventually get forwarded to his A school.

I took the shuttle because I didn't want to deal with the line (or trying to avoid it) and for $3 each way getting me and my daughtet there on time, it was a breeze!! My Sailor daughter came back with us to the hotel for free! It was easy peasy, especially if your Sailor would want to relax a bit at your hotel before you go out to eat and take care of other activities. We had a rental car that we left at the hotel until we needed it. Make sure you are early for the pick-up time for Sarge, so another party doesn't try to sneak into your place!
