Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I do have a question i have had lots of people tell me that after BC the SR's arent the same person that went in personality wise. is this true?

Most said black watch, subway cards, nice sheets xl dorm style sheets, challenge coins ours is the Triton $18 on ebay. I think there is a post there for what they need/want most. let me know if you need more suggestions. conversation ranged from nothing they have their own $ now up to a laptop. Just depends on what you can/want to spend. hope that helps.

JacobsMom: That is a question for Craig! He is the one who talks about that. He is one of our veterans, but not on here as much as the others. You can find him in the MEMBERS (tab up top) and then he is Craig, Aurora CO....I would send him a friend request with the question in the message part you can add to the request.

Comment by Jacob'smom12/168 on March 26, 2013 at 11:51am: Question for the Veteran moms I was reading about Graduation gifts ideas and they talk about a CAC Common Access Card for laptop to access things in your own room but I noticed the post was from 2011. Is this something that our kids will need still after bootcamp to take to A school.

And yes! We are no longer the "newbies" for graduation : )

Erica, will you be going by your maiden name or your married name? I would just plan to change all of your ID's to your married name, if that is the name that you plan to use. You will probably need to have your marriage license to change them, so plan on that, if you do decide to go by your married name.

I need guidance- my son out his dad and my husbands name abbreviated on the list for the PIR. I.e: Rich instead of Richard. Will this be an issue? Do I need to write him to change it?
