~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

diannep: Thank you kindly! I'm a newbie! Besides my brother-in-law who was a chief petty office (and will be there to support my son), the last man in our family who was in the military was my dad who was a marine that was deployed to Vietnam. Then his WW2 great grandpas. One of which was the main reason my son decided to join :) I'm trying to learn & be the best support I can be for him. I think you are right, he should turn back around and be positive again like he usually always is!

Darlene (ship 14, div 165): He does always lay it out there for me, so I think he would have told me if he was one of the SRs who got in trouble, hopefully! lol! He wasn't a trouble maker before! He is 20, I think I would have caught him by now ;) But maybe he just wasn't doing well with something? Yes, excepting this is all out of our hands is a process for us moms too! He was out of the house for a year before he went in, so I have let go some, a tiny "some" that is!

I will rsvp to Sarge's M & G! Thank you for that too!

My son will be at GL for A school. I am planning to bring him his cell phone, laptop, and anything else I can find out he can have! I heard a good watch is a good gift for them too? Like the coin idea too :) Our families will be staying off base. What is a chit?? My newbie is showing again :/

Thank you again ladies for responding :)

Staying at the Navy Lodge Wed - Sun, going to Sarge's

CountryMom:  Just saw your response to CatMom .....I think you will be happy that you switched!  :-)

star:  "Feeling broken" is part of the process...the breakdown process.  That is what the first part of Bootcamp is all about, before they start building them back up into sailors.  So go through the process harder than others, and some will not disclose to their families how emotionally hard it is because they don't want to worry their families....so just know that this is normal.  You will see a change in attitude and outlook starting about Training Week 4....when they have their goal in sight and are much more positive!  So hang in there!

On RSVPing for Sarge's MeetandGreet, it is a good idea since he likes an idea to plan for the food.  You can find your PIR date listed on the left of this page, under EVENTS....just scroll through until you find the MeetandGreet for your date (make sure it is Sarge's since there are other MeetandGreets, but Sarge's will be the most beneficial for info, and is the best attended).

Country Mom:  Is your sailor staying in GL for A School?  If so, those sailors there must get a "chit" when they move over there after PIR in order to visit you in the hotel.   If your sailor is flying out, he/she is under RTC rules and I don't believe the chit is necessary.  But keep in mind that the then-sailors will have been cooped up on a base for a very long time and many would like to visit a hotel "off base".

Navy Lodge is not on RTC....it is in the housing area about a mile away.  So you may want to consider staying there....unless you are staying on A School base (which is where Navy Gateway is) in order to be closer to your GL A School sailor.  You would not be far away though staying at Navy Lodge!

Good Morning All !

CatMom509, Oh my gosh, thank you so much for pointing out the differences between the Navy Lodge and the Navy Gateway Lodge.  I have switched our reservations to the off base lodge.  I want our visit to be as uncomplicated as possible!  Thanks so much for watching out for us newbies!

star77, my son is ship 14 div 165,maybe they are brother div?the 2 letters he sent said that some of SR were doing crazy things, some were in trouble???not sure what that means but he said his div was coming together and were focused on graduating.he also said he was not as homesick that they are so busy during day and tired at night. all we can do is pray..it is out of our hands,as moms thats the hardest part.

Comment by CatMom509 on April 12, 2014 at 2:02am

Country Mom,

Navy Gateway is on base at Great Lakes and is much more restrictive as far as your SR/Sailor visiting you there.  Your SR/Sailor must obtain a written chit for permission to be at that hotel with you.  The Navy Lodge is off base and the reservation should be under your SR's name, he/she is welcome there, no special paperwork necessary.  I think Navy Lodge is $66-$78 for a room depending on the amenities.  Plus they provide you with a breakfast to go in a bag on PIR day and a shopping pass for you to shop at the small NEX by them without your Sailor~~

Oh and we did RSVP for Sarge's Meet and Greet.
