~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Njunnelle:

Yes, he can buy a phone card up there at the NEX with his supply card, but saves him money if you buy one and send it.  Yes, it is a good thing to have!  Sounds like he has bought himself one though if he has called you.  If he can't use another one, he will lend it to someone else....they are good about sharing their cards.  I would think that one brand works as well as another.  Just remember that they are calling from hard-line phones so don't get a cell phone one.

Navy Gateway is actually on the A School base.  Are you all military?  You need military ID to stay there  However, you can stay at Navy Lodge which is near RTC (mile away) under your SR's military ID (just reserve in his name).  Navy Lodge is a good idea to stay in.  Others that are good, recommended by others on here, are:  Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  For these 4 hotels, call them directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  These 4 are close together...about 4-5 miles from RTC. Near Sarge's MeetandGreet.

As far as Liberty for those flying out, you should have Friday after PIR until about 8 or 9 pm....then you return him to RTC.  He will most likely fly out on Sat., which means bussed in the middle of the night to wait for flights (you can meet him out there).  Sometimes they don't fly until Sunday if they can't get flights, so if you can stay until Sunday just in case, you won't miss time with him if this happens to him.  They won't know their flights until after BattleStations, right before PIR.

On the restaurants in the area...you may want to google that.  If you go into Chicago, you have to make sure to allow lots of time to return (remember, lots of traffic in Chicago).  He cannot be LATE!  Strict no no.  You can also google restaurants in the Great Lakes/Waukegan/Gurnee area which is near RTC.

OMG, I just got a call from my son and my heart was pounding since it's not Sunday, but he said he was given time to call and had 4 min on his calling card :-)  He did say he wouldn't be able to call again for a while, but would be writing more.  He told me they are in week 2 getting ready to go into week 3.  Did anyone else get a call?

Hello Everyone,So i have a few questions with regarding phone cards, PIR hotels, restaurants exc.

-First off are phone cards a smart thing to send? will he be able to use it? My sailor has called 3 times now, typically on Saturdays at noon. Idk if he's using a phone card, if they're granted or what. But if they are: where should i get them, how much, what brand do i get exc.?

-Secondly what hotels are recommended to stay at for Graduation. His family was looking into the Suites the NAVY Gateway on base that was shown in the pamphlet sent home. Any Other suggestions?

-I know there's really not an answer for this , but Typically if they leave for A-school (ex.Pensacola) what is an estimate time they could have for liberty. Hoping not Grad n' Go but I know he won't most likely know till after BS21 but I'm trying to get a grasp of what is typical because if he has more liberty time i may stay up there and try to fly home.

-And last but not least he would like me to send him a list of restaurants/attractions around chicago area so he can decide where to visit and eat on liberty while given the opportunity.

any feedback helps! Thank you :)
