DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Star77 my daughter is also ship 14, div 166.  I just received the first letter from her in 3-1/2 weeks and have had no phone call for almost month.  (The first 2 weeks I got 3 phone calls and several letters.) I was working hard not to worry.  She said her division has been challenged pulling it together, but is finally doing so. They have earned a couple of flags and are on the board. She said not to expect any communication until graduation because hell week just started after Easter.  They are up to their eyeballs in tasks and testing.  Take courage in the belief you have in your son.  I too am a single mom and am not only proud of my daughter but of all our SRs who have chosen this path for their lives.

star77,

Hang onto your hope and your SR's determination to hang onto his Navy dream!!  Feelings of being down or homesick are temporary.  Most SRs just spring back as they get underway in their training.  Wait for the recruiter to get back to you~~  Praying for this whole situation...

I have horrible news. I think my son got kicked out. I have heard through unreliable sources (a facebook posting & mean girlfriend), he got "kicked out for depression". I haven't heard from his recruiters, they are on their way to the office to check. I haven't received letters from him for 2 weeks. He has never had depression in his life? I feel blindsided. He has a very bad girlfriend who has been very unsupportive and extremely problematic. She has some severe problems, but we were all hoping he would see her in a clear light through some help from being in the Navy and those positive changes that occur. I am having a bad feeling in my bones about this. I am so very worried if this is true. He has wanted this bad since he was 15...he is 20. He would get shipped back down to where she lives where he left from (in AZ). His home and family is here in MN. Any prayers please that I receive good news. I am so upset...knowing he will be devastated.
