OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thank you Lala! Will be interesting what my son is doing in the 926 as I said he doesn't play a instrument or such. ( Bahahaha that I know of...)
Hopefully he explains it in a letter or call soon.

My son is not a writer, I hope he becomes one. I have not received a personal letter :(

Hello! We got the letter yesterday saying that his PIR is 5/10. He left March 11 and will be a Hospital Corpsman. Still no personal letter....

Congrats on your letter!

I finally got my letter - Ship 02 Division 926. I guess our kids are in the same division, which makes sense for my son since he played the saxophone and was in all of the school plays, plus a couple of professional ones here in town.  I wonder what they'll have him doing!  His last role was in The Full Monty - I'm guessing he won't be advertising that too much!

You can ship them to A School, not a problem.
Comment by WestCoastMom SHIP 14, DIV 180 on March 22, 2013 at 4:11pm

Can I ship such mentioned clothes to him at A school?

Comment by ellen0502 on March 22, 2013 at 3:58pm

You're welcome WestCoastMom. There are also rules as to what civilian clothes they can wear too, and it isn't unusual for the civies they wore before BC to now not fit them. Some bulk up, some slim down, some just flat out change shape. LOL

The pant legs cannot touch the ground, jeans cannot be torn, tattered or frayed. T-shirts that are white or navy blue must have something printed on them so they are not mistaken for underwear. My son won't wear a black t shirt that isn't printed either, it can be mistaken for navy blue.

You may want to ask your sailor if there is a certain pair of jeans, or a shirt that they cannot live without, and take them with you. They can't wear them right away, but it can be nice to have some known clothes.

Remember anything you give them the have to carry when moving and changing bases.

Ellen, thanks for your prompt response. So I could bring his boxers--I'm sure he'll love that!

Comment by ellen0502 on March 22, 2013 at 3:39pm

Your sailor can't wear civilian clothes until they phase up. Phasing up doesn't happen until they are at school, and  the first phase up (to wear civies) happens in 2-3 weeks.

PIR weekend they have to stay in their Navy issued clothing, this includes swimming. Of course, most like to get out of the tighty whities they were issued for BC and get back into their boxers. :
