OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Usnavygirlfriend.  I have to agree with MonkeyBoysMom....I think that will be wonderful news to share after graduation.....maybe even on the I'm a Sailor call if you don't want to wait until PIR.  You don't want him to worry about you and your pregnancy while focusing on bootcamp.  This will give you time to think of a cute way to tell him!  If anyone is writing to your SR who knows about your pregnancy, you may want to tell that person to not share this news because you are going to surprise him.

Blessings to you and your SR and your growing family!

Good Morning All !

Not misunderstood. :) I just wanted to clarify that I think it is the only rating that can graduate from BC at E4.

Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to receive calls from your SRs this weekend!  The call will show up as "847", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar.  If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you."

During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands.  If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it.  They will call during the week for security information (no chit chat), but the weekends are the "update calls."

Some who don't receive calls may be because their SR was on watch.  If you know you are going to be in an area with no reception, you can record a message to your SR encouraging them~~

Yes it does. Thank you!

Yes it was the form letter. We are good for 5-16. I just hope they have started their actual training by now.

My son is ship 13 div 174. We received his box on Monday and his letter Tuesday. I hope he isn't still in P-days.
