Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by diannep on May 6, 2015 at 7:20am: Good Morning! Getting used to having your future sailors gone on holidays and birthdays is hard....but something that has to be done. When my son was in (he has now been honorably discharged)....he missed two Thanksgivings and would have missed the next one if I didn't go up to him! It is hard....he missed a few birthdays too....thankfully he was here for Christmas which helped alot! It is never easy...you are always missing them at these times....Bootcamp is a good "test" for you to prepare you for deployments....although you may have some contact during those times, it will be very limited.

Chin up....you are not alone! You have support from others on here who understand!

I was a mess too. First birthday without being together. It's our family tradition, i always make a birthday dinner consisting of the birthday honorees favorites, and always a homemade birthday cake from scratch decorated according to what he or she wants. Last year, i made a dragonball z cake for him, as he was a huge fan when he was younger. LOL. I'm already emotional about Sunday. It will be my first mothers day minus one child. :( i will be keeping us all in prayer that we get through all the "firsts" while our sons and daughters are away. I just keep telling myself, that although these things do not get easier, i am becoming stronger slowly but surely! It definitely would be a great Mother's day gift if we could all receive a phone call! Let's hope! ♡♡♡♡

I can't wait either...isn't it a little crazy that they love it there? That's good, though. My son had a "family" in the music/drama program at high school...imagine this is somewhat the same. By now with all the time these kids have spent together, in good times and challenging times, they must be very close by now.
