For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by diannep on April 2, 2015 at 4:08pm: Yes, it is best to wait to mail once the form letter is received. There are times that the recruiter's info is not correct (not often, but it happens)---the form letter, in your SR's handwriting, should be the correct info....and sometimes a division may be moved to another ship (barracks) for one reason or another and the recruiter's info not updated right away. Just remember about the 2 weeks of held mail before they get anything.....hoping that you all can get letters up there before their first mail delivery so that they can "shine" when their name is called! If you do not have the form letter by a week or so after your SR's arrival at RTC, you may want to use the recruiter's address just to get your initial letters there. Compare with form letter address when it arrives.

Im so proud of my son! I cant wait to talk to him to find out what he will actually be doing in the 900 division. I am still waiting on the form letter and his first real phone call! i have so many letters waiting to be mailed to him, but i was advised to wait for the form letter! Wishing everyone and our SR's a Blessed day!!! ♡♡♡

Comment by diannep on April 2, 2015 at 7:18am: Mamakweenb : Not all in the 900 divisions play instruments. Some are administrative in their jobs, assisting with VIPs at PIRs. They normally choose those who have higher ASVAB scores and who they know can handle both their training and practicing for their other 900 responsibilities.

He's done a lot of marching in High School and he also did Drum Core. He will definitely will be picking up on a new instrument. Maybe percussion. Did you get your box yet? I know letters haven't come in yet for PIR5/22/15
