for
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

My phone will not be more than 3 feet away from me for the next 4 days.
Congradulations proud GA!!!!!!
MY SON IS OFFICIALLY "A SAILOR". CONGRATULATIONS AND CANT WAIT TO HUG THAT BOY
Hope you gals understand we are here to help you to know what to expect as much as we can in this Navy journey! We are very OPSEC conscious too~~ Nothing wrong with advising of things after the fact...
Congrats to the families receiving those Sailor calls today!!
WestPacific: I'm am so very sorry! So hard to know what to do in a case like this....I think both Catmom and ellen gave you good options....but ultimately, it will be up to you, knowing your son, on what to do. Prayers for all of you!
Thanks, ladies, for the kind words!
Bravo Zulu to the new Sailors!!
As for cell phones...Cell phones are not allowed to be taken back to the RTC after PIR. For those with Sailors leaving GL you can give them their cell phones at the airport. Those staying in GL you can give your Sailors their cell phones on Friday after they have moved over to the TSC side and are out for liberty.
WestPacific, If it were me I would not say anything during the I am a Sailor call. I would let my Sailor have that moment and day. It would be hard, but...I would wait.
As hard as it would be, even at this point if something more were to happen I would still wait until after PIR to let your Sailor know. It is so close to graduation and all eyes must be on the end result for them.
Hugs and prayers to you and your family!!!
azmom,
Usually the new Sailors can't have their cell phones till after they have changed from the RTC to the TSC side if they are at Great Lakes for A school or you have to give it to them at the airport if they are flying out.
Maybe one of the other admins can advise if this has changed?
Happy Friday!!
"We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said, 'What amazing things
the Lord has done for them.' "
Psalm 126:2
WestPacific,
Since your SR will be done with all his training when he has passed Battlestations, I think it would be safe to gently share this serious news with him after he has told you all the happy stuff. Let him know to pray for his grandfather~~
Lifting up your family during this difficult time and asking the Lord for a full recovery~~ Please ask for rehabilitation therapy at a rehabilitation hospital immediately before bringing grandpa home as that made a world of difference when my hubby had his stroke almost 5 years ago~~ (((HUGS)))
