OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I never got the form letter yet. Should I contact her recruiter to find out what her address is. Seems like everyone has gotten the form letter. I am new at this and really want to know the address so I can write her.

Divisions have been confirmed by the RTC for this TG. There are seven divisions which means 4 guests allowed at PIR.

NavyMom1994:  Yes, we think you are in the right place!  Div 177/178 (brother divisions) will be the first 2 divisions in this group.  Welcome!

bwelly:  Ditto what ellen said!  Are you on NavyforDads too?  If so, please feel free to take our info back to them....and share any they have with us!  :-)  NavyMoms and NavyDads need to work together!

Hey, everyone!  Welcome to "Bootcamp 101"!  :-)  I am another N4Moms veteran, like ellen, Lala, and CatMom....my son was at bootcamp in 2009, has since been honorably discharged and is finishing his Bachelors this summer (we hope) on the GI Bill.  I stay to help on the PIR groups because I love it!

Please read the "pages" info that ellen posted above and to the right, under the MEMBERS PHOTO BOX.  Lots of good stuff there.  Then, if you have any questions, please post them here!  One of us will get to them.

Also, please do not make travel arrangements (flights) until your PIR date is confirmed by the form letter from your SR.  No harm if you want to book a hotel, but flight changes can be costly with most airlines!  Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL) is a good plan if they fly from your area....no change fee in case your SR is setback for any reason, and 2 bags check for free.   Be sure to check their special one-way fares too....sometimes you can get a deal booking 2 of them rather than roundtrip.

Won't be long before you have sailors!  :-)
