N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

What a great letter, Ali!  Congrats!

Good Morning!

Received our first letter today from our SR. It was from P week so I am sure a lot has changed by now.  I cried as I read it out load to my husband and daughter "First off I just want to say how much I miss you and how much it ____ to be away from loved ones like this. It's a situation like this that makes me realize what you two mean to me, I love you both so much and am so thankful you raised me so well."  the rest of the letter was nice, he is liking it and he said the yelling is not bad as long as you do "exactly, Exactly what they tell you to do. They have count down going until PIR, just like us:)

elise:  I would contact Sarge....he is the one who has the MeetandGreet for you all, and he owns a taxi company....they operate as shuttles for PIR, airport transportation, etc.  So just text or call him at:  847 212 0246  or email him at:

johnspadaro@att.net

Yes, I know....hard to book flights when not knowing the schedule of your sailor!  We booked our flight back on a Sunday...just in case he had longer Liberty.  As it turned out, our sailor left on Sat. around noon, so we just did some sightseeing!

diannep,
Just booked a room at the Navy Lodge. Which shuttle did you use? Or are there several to choose from?

And yeah, not sure as to which airport she will be flying out of. And I'm afraid if I wait until she finds out, the prices will be outrageous. There are only about 3 flights available out of MDW back home and all leaving around 6-8am. But several leaving from ORD mid-morning to afternoon. But with my luck I would book one and she would end up flying out of the opposite or even on Sunday. Usually how it goes lol.

Thanks diannep!

Mommamac:  They didn't.....then they did....then we heard they didn't.  But you can also schedule the shuttle with Sarge's service:  847 212 0246

elise:  We rented a car when up there as well....but we opted for the shuttle to/from PIR service.  It was cheap ($3/pp each way) and we didn't have to worry about anything.  It dropped us off right at the front gate and, yes, the shuttles bypass the car line.

Also, you don't know yet which airport your SR will be flying from, right?  Is that why you wanted to fly out of Ohare, because you assume your sailor will be leaving from there and you will be visiting?   I believe the 2 airports are about 30 miles or so apart from each other---the sailors will be flying out of both of them, but won't know which one for sure until they have their flights booked right before PIR.  If your sailor flies from Ohare, you could turn your car in after seeing your sailor off and the rental company would take you to Midway.  Is there a good return fare leaving from Midway?

To answer your question about hotels, Navy Lodge is always good and good prices....about a mile from the base.  Others that you could consider, all nice hotels are:  Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, and then the "suite" hotels (which you probably don't need) Springhill Suites and Residence Inn.  All close together, about 4-5 miles from base.  They are close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for the sailors' families. Book Navy Lodge in your SR's name if you do not have military ID; on the other 4, calls them direct and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.

CatMom509,
Thank you! That would be wonderful! I think I would much rather have a car for sure. I'm flying into midway Thursday afternoon, and then driving the hour to the hotel. Anyone else flying into midway Thursday 5/28? I'm going to be flying out of O'Hare on Saturday, but haven't booked that flight yet. And so far two one way tickets were cheaper than a round trip. I booked through Southwest so that if anything changed I didn't have to pay a fee, but the airline does not fly in or out of O'Hare for some reason. So I would have to pay to have that one changed. I don't know the odds of a PIR date changing so I would like to go ahead and book a returning flight, just makes me nervous. And I've seen several hotel suggestions near the naval station, anyone have any preferences as to where the best place would be? It will just be me in the room, so no need for suites or kitchenette. Thanks for the responses so far!
