~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I just dowloaded an app called "automatic call recorder"  this way my cell  will automatically   record the i'm a sailor call when I pick up... I will then get one of those digital photo frames that holds a voice message.  I will load all the photos we take at PIR into the frame and it will play the "I'm a Sailor" script too!!!

What would be some other ideas, something sentimental and personal for a boyfriend? He already got the coin....HELP lol
Comment by cindyb on May 13, 2014 at 7:52pm

Oh I didn't see the Core coin. I like that one. I am going to get that one too. I have had the division coin for awhile. Is it better to get their rating coin after A school?

Leslie, Push divisions are just that, push to get done. They will get the same training, but there is less time to do it. They most likely will not follow what the others are doing day by day. What others do on week 5 day 2, a PUSH might have done week 4 day 5, or they might not do it until week 5 day 4.

My son entered BC thinking his grad date was 4/27, ended up in the 4/20 TG, and then was on p hold for 11 calendar days. They were on hold while waiting for 60 (yes not a typo 60) females to arrive to fill the last two divisions in the TG. His BS date was week 6 day 2.

Those recruits in a push division may not even notice the difference other than the "hurried" training. I spent the first four weeks of BC so confused as nothing was matching up to what they were supposed to be doing. Once we all figured out they were push it made sense.

Don't stress over the time to get it all done, it will work out. Push divisions are not uncommon in a TG, and the RDCs know exactly how to get it all done.

Thanks Diane, I will watch for Ellen to post.  I just hope I get the I'm a sailor call before we hit the road to drive up there

Comment by diannep on May 13, 2014 at 4:13pm

Leslie:  ellen can answer this more thoroughly since her son was in a "push" division....but no worries....they get it all done.  I think ellen will tell you that the training week/day count is all crazy in push divisions, so it is hard to follow.  Just know that you will have a sailor by PIR!

Hi. My son is in Ship 4 Div 188 with PIR 5/30. I have a question that I thought maybe someone could  answer or direct me to some info. When he sent the form letter he told me he is in a "push" division. Can you give me any insight into a "push div" Tomorrow is 5-1 day for him and it just doesn't seem like there is enough time to finish out bootcamp and have PIR on 5/30 Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, I got a couple of these Challenge Coins for my Sailor daughter when she graduated PIR last year, please check out www.pirgifts.com. Challenge Coins are a military tradition.  Craig, who is one of the veterans on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC.  The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion Forum.  When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins.  This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days!  Another really sharp coin is the Core Value one--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge.  These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and famiily. My Sailor daughter thought her USS Hopper (Ship 03) coin was "cool."
