Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

During Son's phone call yesterday, he said he'll be writing and sending letters on Sunday. We're all looking forward to receiving those next week some time. :)

Son called yesterday morning! What a pleasant surprise! It was to let me know he needs a document emailed or faxed. Also, he's getting his wisdom teeth removed. Can anyone offer any info about this? Will my Son have enough time to recover before returning to the vigorous demands of BC? Will he be given more than just a local anesthetic? I'm hoping he'll get through BC oral surgery ok.

Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to receive calls from your SRs this weekend! The call will show up as "847", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar. If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you."
During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands. If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it. They can call during the week or weekend, so just be prepared: 6:00 am - 6:00 pm (West Coast); 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Great Lakes time); 9:00 am - 9:00 pm (East Coast).
Some who don't receive calls may be because their SR was on watch. If you know you are going to be in an area with no reception, you can record a message to your SR encouraging them~~

For those who have kids at home missing their mom/dad/sibling etc this can be really hard for them to understand. Especially the younger ones. There are many things you can do with them that would help them understand how much longer it is until graduation. You can make a paper chain together with a link for each day remaining and let them remove a link each day so they can actually see PIR getting closer and closer. You could also put a quarter in a jar for each day and let them remove one quarter per day and at the end of each week use the quarters for a special treat like an ice cream cone or something they love. You could also use marbles in a jar for the same purpose. Anything that helps your little ones understand how much longer until that big day will help :)

LOL...when we got the box and the form letter, my husband thought someone else wrote if for him. I said, nope, that is his handwriting, just in nice neat block letters. ;-)

Friends,
Also want to let you know that you can put your SR's cell phone on Military Suspension for the 2 months that he/she wiil be in Boot Camp. Just contact your cell phone carrier after your SR has made his/her "I'm Here" call and the phone is on its way back to you in The Box or any time after you get it back. You can do this for free and it will save on the monthly charges on that phone. You can re-activate it for the day before PIR. I was able to easily re-activate my daughter's cell phone online at Verizon Wireless.
