~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Oh, I'm sure it will!!!  Thank you and your daughter's class for doing this!  I sure hope my kid's former school does the same thing!

Thanks mrsb!!! I think this will really boost our guys morale seeing the cute drawings and notes they send to 214!

Proudmomtokyle, I was told yesterday (I think!) that all the letters have to come in a  large manila-type  envelope with the teachers name and school address on the envelope.  He will most likely have to open it in front of his RDC but that will be ok.  I'm hoping that my SRs former K-8 school will send letters or pictures or whatever.  You should let your son know that something like that may be coming.  :)

Comment by BonnieB GA Div 214 on May 9, 2013 at 9:50pm

My SRs little kindergarten sister is having her class draw pictures for Div 214.  My question is, can I send these to my SR all in one large envelope or do they have to each fit into a separate letter size envelope?

Comment by mrsb on May 9, 2013 at 9:17pm

Woohoo!!  I got two letters today!!!   He sounds so much better than before.  I think he's finally realized that he had it pretty easy living here!!  But he's glad he's there and says he will make us proud.  Well, no kidding!!!!  Ii thought there was only one letter but then another fell out of the pile of stuff.  There is another one for my older son and it's all I can do to not tear into it, but he'll be here tomorrow night.  Oh Lord, I can't wait until the 7th!!!

Comment by Janet (Grad Hold in BS) on May 9, 2013 at 8:34pm

I finally got a letter from my SR in Div 219. It was brief as expected, but good to hear from him.  He said that May 5th was the first opportunity they had to mail letters.  I hope everyone gets a call or a letter this week!

Sorry to be a bother, what does it mean to be charged with roving watch duty?

Comment by BeachBunny on May 9, 2013 at 7:51pm

Mine said that they didn't know for sure until after they passed BS21 and got their orders....but I planned to stay until Monday morning, to not miss a minute with him.He didn't fly out until Sunday. If you can plan to stay until Sunday night.

Comment by ochaos on May 9, 2013 at 7:26pm

They usually do not have flight info until the week before PIR. It could be right but then when I was at PIR just 3 weeks ago,I know some flew to San Antonio the night of PIR, which surprised me. As with the military everything can and does change, sometimes our children hear what they want to hear. maybe they already have the flight info and that is great, but hold off just a bit to get it verified.

Also for those staying at GL for A school, you may need to sign out and back in your sailor daily, I did. You do not want them to be late at all. If you go into Chicago, plan plenty of time to get back to base, better to be back early than late.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on May 9, 2013 at 6:56pm

mom2cdjk, it is possible that he could have the whole weeked (daytime) Not sure he would know that for sure this soon but I would book the hotel just in case. If you find out at PIR that he doesn't have the time you can cancel part of your stay if you like. Most of the hotels there have a very flexible reservation policy and they don't charge a fee for changes or cancelations.
