For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on May 2, 2013 at 8:21pm: My son was at his duty station in VA and got the stomach virus. He called into work that morning to tell them he had it, and they told him to get out of bed, get to the dr on base, and get a note in order to miss work, which he had to take into his office. Somehow he did that...didn't ask details....yuck!

Comment by diannep on May 2, 2013 at 8:18pm: No wories, Tconn. These are still the "practice" PFAs. The one they absolutely have to pass (all 3 parts) is the 3rd and final one. So although it helps them psychologically to pass the first two, they still have to pass the 3rd one in order to do BattleStations.

Sounds like he has the Ricky Crud. So many get it...but amazingly, they seem to get over it and few let it get in the way of graduating! Some have even been hospitalized in the past with pneumonia and still seem to get back to training (not even setback in PIR date most times). So....hoping that he is feeling better soon....but try not to worry!

He has a horrible cough but says he is getting better however they have a pft tomorrow I am concerned with as bad as he his coughing it will effect his run time. What happens if he fails it? I don't know what the pass run times are for 800 divisions in basic. But will that roll his graduation date back if he does?

I agree, I would have said I was done, send me home and I probably would have cried until they did. What they have chosen to do just amazes and impresses me.

I just talked to him yesterday and he had an ear infection they gave him medicine. No SIQ for mine either. I hope your son is feeling better too. Considering what's expected of them and to do it while they are ill is pretty impressive.
