For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

He has mentioned names that start with B because he said they are in alphabetical order. He also mentioned another name. I wasn't sure if I could post their actual names. He said they are good guys and he has become good friends with him. I am so glad. He sounded great in his letters.

He seemed to be in good spirits, has strep throat and a broken toe. Oh my goodness...Had the option to go to SIQ, but chose to be fit for service and stick it out. Woohoo! I would think he is feeling better by now.

Comment by WeAllGoByGeorgeLongStory on May 2, 2013 at 4:26pm: Today's mailbox = 6 letters!! One each to my husband, our two sons still at home and two daughters still at home and ME!! Feels good to still feel connected to my son. In his letter to one of his sisters he asked for her to contact two friends (specifically). Mom's intuitively know things! Last night I "Stalked" his facebook page to find the pages of those same two friends. I befriended them and printed 7 pages (each) of both young mens' most recent wall posts (two envelopes each, one stamp on each envelope with 3/4 pages in each envelope). Now my SR is in the know for the two friends he asked about, and even before his request reached our home. Kind or reminds me of Matthew 6:8, "our Father knows what we have need of even before we ask."

Comment by ellen0502 on May 2, 2013 at 3:54pm: You can send the contact in a small priority box, put the solution in a zip lock bag, and on the box mark "contact lenses enclosed". The RDC will make your SR open the box in front of them, but it isn't a problem.

They take the pictures when the SRs uniforms come back from the tailor, it will be a couple more weeks.

Comment by carolb on May 2, 2013 at 3:37pm: Veterans, somewhere I read that we could send one pair of contact lenses, a lens case, and a small bottle of solution so the SR's could have contacts for pictures and for PIR rather than those beautiful glasses. If so, how should I package them properly so they get through any mail "inspections", and is now the time to send them? When are pictures?
