~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My SR said someone in his division had received newspapers, and he wants me to send some to him.  How do you send them?  Manilla envelope?  Will it cause a problem?  Apparently it didn't cause any problem for the other SR.

Just got off the phone with my SR!  Just when I gave up hope that he would call!  He is doing MUCH better than last week.  He had his 4 wisdom teeth out the other day and is handling it very well!  He's got some friends and he is getting much stronger!  I am so proud of him!

...I should add that since some divisions have already started receiving mail, it could be that GR8RABsMom's division took longer to have their Mail SR trained, and maybe they were one of the last to fill up their division and start training.  Glad some divisions have started receiving mail!

Comment by diannep on April 27, 2013 at 6:39pm

GR8RABsMom:  I have a feeling that they will get their letters tomorrow for the first time---their "held mail" is usually given to them on a Sunday.  They hold the mail until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained and that takes about 2 weeks.  Once they get their first mail delivery (they usually can write then too), they should start receiving mail M-F.  But they usually can just write to you once a week....mailed out on Mondays.  At least, for a while.

No calls from my SR in Div 215 :'-(

Comment by Janet (Grad Hold in BS) on April 27, 2013 at 6:32pm

I got a call today from my SR (DIV 219) and I put the details in the division discussions posted above, but he loves the food!  We are from south Louisiana and he is accustomed to a wide variety of wonderful foods so I'm glad he thinks it is great!

Comment by GR8RABsMom on April 27, 2013 at 6:27pm

Yay!  We did it!!  I got the call from my SR today.  We had a nice conversation even though I accidentally hung up when trying to connect to a speaker.  Fortunately, he called right back.  He's very homesick and exhausted.  He hasn't received any of our letters because they've put their mail on hold for some reason.  He's not sure why but is very frustrated about it.  I'm sure he'll get TONS of letters once he is finally allowed.  I, alone, have sent ten letters.  LOL!  By the end of the conversation he was more upbeat.  It's a hard thing to hear how frustrating things can be, but I know he'll "put on his big boy pants" and handle things fine.

It's funny, all the different opinions about the food!!

Comment by mrsb on April 27, 2013 at 6:09pm

Our son called around 2pm pacific time!  I was so bummed all day because the first time he called, last saturday, it was 6 am!!  He has a cold, cough, feels lousy but doesn't want to go to medical.  Others have told him that they will sometimes delay recruits for a week or two and he wants to get the heck out of there on June 7th!  He sounded pretty upbeat though; said it will be easier when he is feeling better.  Also said the food is lousy!  Just wants an In and Out burger! And computer games, and sleep!  Nothing much!  So good to hear his voice though.  :)  kevsmom93, he does know your son!
