~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I just got "The Letter" yesterday...thought it would never get here!  Will take some time to read through prior posts, then will start getting acquainted with you all :-)

drheck:  I would call the Courtyard back, on another shift of workers (make sure you are calling the hotel directly, not the general Marriott line) and ask for the NAVY GRADUATION rate.  They should have one, unless it is sold out.

Welcome, AJsMom:  When the calls come from the payphones, it is almost always the 847 area code.  However, occasionally a call will come from another Chicago area code...maybe one for info, etc.  So be sure to answer all unknown calls while you have an SR at bootcamp!

Yep, so true posty!  "A" School is so much better with communication back!

Aj's-Mom, welcome! Read all of the posts you'll feel better knowing you're not alone. My boy arrived GL 4/10 I received the box in five days and the letter in 9 days. The day after I received the call that was Saturday morning at 9:07 est. we talked for over 30 minutes, and it was wonderful, hope you will receive the call this week. My son is on ship 03 div 214, PIR June 7, he will be going to NUKE school too. Praying that you get to talk to him soon, you will feel so much better knowing that he's doin well.

proudmama, my boyfriend said the exact same thing! He said he has made a lot of friends and that everyone works very well with each other. and by SO I meant seal contract :)

Tconner, I am your sons friend girlfriend! haha (I didn't want to use any names) I honestly think I got my form letter early because of my mail lady.  I was talking to her one day because I was standing at the mailboxes waiting for her to finish putting every letter in the boxes and she asked if I was waiting for something special. I told her I was waiting for a letter from my boyfriend in boot camp.  She asked me what my apartment number was and then said have a good night.  The next day I got a call from my concierge at my apartment complex and she said the mail lady wanted to pass along the message that your letter is in your mailbox. I ran down there so I could thank her but she was already gone. I don't know if she pulled some strings to get my letter quicker but I will definitely be doing something nice for her!

When I talked to my bf on saturday (he is ship 04 div 813)  he said that they did not have a mail po yet but hopefully they will get one soon! I know there is probably a back of letters by now!!

I talked to a friend of mine who is a navy diver and he was reassuring me that it gets much easier after boot camp as far as communication goes. Just have to make it through 44 more days! :)

AJ's-Mom - welcome to the group!

I have just joined this group and wanted to say "hi". My son arrived at bootcamp on April 9th. We have received his box and the form letter, but no phone call yet. I know it's early but I'm anxious to hear how he's doing. Do the calls always come from area code 847? I thought since they use a calling card that goes through an 800# maybe the area code could change. I missed a call from New Mexico today and that's where my mind went. :-(

I would love to hear from moms who have sons in the same ship/division as my son, and moms with children going onto Nuke school.

Booked rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott for June 7 PIR, asked about a Navy discount but was told there is none.  :(

Tconnor sending hugs to you!   I do know what a let down it is to keep rushing and then no letter.  I am sorry that it did not come today.  I am happy though that you do have confirmation of your SR's address so at least you can be sure that your letters will get to him with no problems.  One mom told me that it took 16 days for her form letter to arrive...right now I am holding on to that.  At least no news is good news....we know our SR's are doing well....that is a very comforting feeling.

Comment by diannep on April 23, 2013 at 12:28pm

K Louise is correct kelly.  A couple of weeks before PIR, the SRs will be updating their "guest lists."  At that time, they will need to put the proper name for their guests.  If you think there may be a problem, please write your SRs and include the actual names (match ID) for them to put on their lists.

Blessings to you in your surgery, proudmama!

Tconner:  I have just found out recently that your SR can actually request to send another form letter to another family member.  He has to ask his/her RDC this.  Just remember that it takes a while for some to receive the form letter, so I would wait a little longer to see if it shows up.  Sometimes it can take 2-3 weeks to arrive.
