Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by K_Louise on June 5, 2013 at 1:18am: I did lol when his box came in I immediately took out his favorite sweater so I could wear it and I threw out his shoes because they smelled so bad I've been wanting to do that for awhile! He doesn't like to wear socks so they were really smelly and don't worry the phone was not in there! It was in his backpack and I remember taking it out and putting it on the shelf and now it's not there. I have an inkling that my nephew might have it he has the weirdest obsession with phones so in the morning I am going to call my brother and see if it's with him. But we will see. My bf is due for an upgrade and has been wanting to get the new Iphone so it might just work out fine! Hopefully he will be too excited to see me and will hopefully forget about the phone!

To tell you the truth, when i received the box i never checked the shoes, only held tight to his stinky, my precious stinky clothes they wore when they left. I was so happy to hold them. weird but i did it. it was only later when my then SR called me and told me to make sure i checked inside his shoes for the phone. i left it there until he asked for me to bring it this friday's PIR 6/7, actually 6/8 at the airport where they can take that stuff with them.

Comment by K_Louise on June 5, 2013 at 12:29am: Ahh! Freaking out! I was packing my suitcase since I will be leaving tomorrow night for Denver to flight out Thursday morning! Well I was packing the stuff my boyfriend asked me to bring and I can't find his phone anywhere!!!! I mean I went through everything everywhere and still can't find it!!! Not good! I am hoping it just magically shows up tomorrow somewhere!

On a funny note, I did feel like an absolute weirdo shopping for all white boxer briefs at Target today! Especially since I have no idea what my boyfriend is going to look like size wise so hopefully I get him some that fit!

Today just has not been my day! It just needs to be Friday already!

Comment by Kimberly on June 4, 2013 at 10:38pm: We are now the proud parents of a US Navy Sailor....we received our call about 3:30 this afternoon, spoke for 30 min...he was very exhausted, and I have been answering calls from family and friends in between happy tears since then!! Congrats to all the other new Sailor moms!!
