~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

PENMANSHIP - They are taught to write in the All aps block Print with a strikethrough through some of the numbers to differentiate between numbers and letters "0" for example. It is required and so that is why the writing may look unfamiliar. But rest assured that it was your recruit that wrote it. Only the Recruits fill out the Form Letter with the pertinent info and address the envelopes.
George - Crud...I'm confused. What is the Ship/ Division on the Form Letter? Just post that nothing else from it (I know you know about names already :-)).
If he is SPECOP, all SPECOP Division are on Ship 04 (unless I have missed something and they have been moved veteran moms?)
So I am thinking Ship04/Div812?
We are not up to a Division 312 yet...Only at 212 for the last Training Group so about a hundred Divisions off.
Going to A School: Will we have time to visit with our son after PIR and before he goes to A School? Kyle is staying at Great Lakes and going to Engineman A School.
An update for all of you who have helped me with suggestions and ideas on tracking down my sr's address.
I am sorry it as taken so long to respond. My SR's recruiter is about 2 hours away. I drove there, but had to stop by the bank, get gas and keep a Chiropractor appointment.
So the recruiter had my son's info on his computer. I was sooooo grateful, of course I started crying. He had me verify that I was his mother!! He also gave me his mother's cell phone number and encouraged me to call her (which I did right away, but only got voice-mail so left a message - I'll try again later!)
I dropped all 9 of my letters off in the mail on my way home, using the address the recruiter gave me. He gave me ship 4, division 312M, 3415 Sailor Drive, Great Lakes. We'll the street name/number is different then the template for pre-buds on that forum page. So, I sent the letters all to ship 4 division 312 at the street address listed on the pre-puds forum page.
Then when I got home from all of that, there was a letter in the mail. It had my son's initials as the return, in VERY neat handwriting, so the rest of the family is convinced he didn't write the envelope himself. Even his recruiter today told me he has the sloppiest handwriting he's seen!! :-)
I know that it was my son's handwriting and I am so glad to see that in just a week, they have been able to clean up penmanship that I as his home school teacher harked on (unsuccessfully) for 12 years :-)
The return address gave a different ship number, same division and the same street address as what is listed on the pre-buds shop. So, now I am worried my first 9 letters will get lost (any ideas from the mentors/monitors if wrong ship # but correct division will reach him?)
But, at least I can write the address on his letter from now on!!!!
Thank you for thinking of us! I will continue to keep you posted about my SR and you please do the same (as much as we are able with these strict guidelines)!
His graduation date is 6/7 and I will be going!!! He placed hubbdy/dad and I on the invite list!
Yes, true. But sometimes the SRs will mail home the design....maybe they have been told not to do that anymore? But it is kind of neat to have the first revealing of the flag design at PIR. The way it should be!
I am a huge online shopper when I need something (not much of a shopper....period!). They have some good deals! Love ordering through Amazon! :-)
I know about knee pain...ouch! Hope you heal soon, L!
ProugMomToKyle, Melanie & vlhvirgo: My son is Ship 03, DIV 214! Nice to meet all of you :-)
But no one will get to see the design until PIR and I think that is the whole reason behind this. The DIV flag is not supposed to be revealed until PIR and parents were posting pics of them on here and on facebook. Now that won't happen. I wonder if that is one of the reasons the other company lost their contract.
I order as much as possible online. Especially now that I have an injured knee. Shopping is just too painful. With a small business you have to order online to get what you need :)
FTLW: I'm with you, order online! Can't wait to do all this stuff. I told my son before he left if they offer you something to order...order it! I will reimburse you :-)
On a selfish note...we all get to see the design as well :-)
