Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by mrsb on June 4, 2013 at 8:47pm: Melanie, from what the USO lady told me today, they can wait there, without going through security. They can meet outside of USO if it's real crowded. I just don't know if they will be told to go directly to the gate area; I will ask my son to keep in contact with me that morning so we can meet up somewhere. I have his phone, ipod, twizzlers and homemade cookies to give to him! Not to mention his own underwear and some q-tips!

Comment by Melanie on June 4, 2013 at 8:13pm: Yes it is o'hare. So he doesn't have to go thru security just get his boarding pass? I wasn't sure if he could leave the airport once dropped off. I guess if the hotel is attached he may be able to go there? Thx for that suggestion, maybe that would be better.

Comment by BeachBunny on June 4, 2013 at 6:35pm: The USO will let families in.... if your sailor signs you in and the USO personal approve you. They don't always let families in. But you can ask another sailor to find yours or knock on the window at him to walk out and greet you....just a heads up. For us the USO worker at O'hare wasn't friendly but the USO personal at Navy Pier were great! It all works out...:)

I can't wait till Thursday when we leave for cooler weather! It is in the high 90's in TX and I keep running out of breath just to get from my car to inside a store!

In the section above in the meetint your new Sailor at the airport, it says that at O'Hare they hang out at the USO and that it's not in a secure area so we won't have to go through security. That's what I'm hoping anyway!

I am assuming that it is to verify that you are who you say you are and who you "belong" too. This is for security reasons I am sure, what with the state of the world.

HAHAHAHAHAHA He knows I'm the one with the car and will get her there. hahahaha I do love my Sailor!!!! He sounds so grown up now.... which is good. Have to cut the umbilical!

Thank you for all the good info you gave me! I will play it by ear and see what the airlines want from us. We are out of O'Hare, same as mrsb's Sailor; 10:30 am flight.

We will have some time with him. We intend to pull an all nighter! Everyone in our party of 6 is pumped about it so it will be ok for us.
