OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Can someone tell me how we go about seeing our recruit the day after PIR? Do we call him to meet us? Where do we park? Can my whole family come in the car if they weren't on the PIR list? I'm taking the shuttle to PIR, so not sure about the whole driving thing and what to do.  I've printed a gate pass though.

I know that's a lot of questions :)  Sorry!

Got a letter from Kyle today! He said he passed the gas chamber and now knows why they call it tear gas :) Passed his last PFA and inspection and got some sort of stripes for his dress whites! He ordered pictures from the NEX and wants me to ask someone why it's called DRESS BLUES when it looks black :) 214 started a wrestling tournament and Spadaro kicked his booty....LOL They are working on chants for Captains Cup and doing some sort of "Tonkin/Hawaiian dance" ??? He said he'll show all of us at PIR!! LOL WHEN IS THAT DANG CALL GONNA COME !!!!!!!!

I just got an email notification that my son along with Divisions 217 - 220 gave blood this morning at the RTC.  I think he must have provided my email address for his appointment confirmation because his email from college is expired or because he thought I'd like to know that!  In any case, it's silly how excited I get over hearing the most frivilous news from BC.  I'm jealous of all of the calls some of you are expecting today and will try to be patient as I wait for mine.  Congrats to 213, 214, and 812!!
