OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

On the Upcoming Graduations page on the RTC site, when the gate pass for this PIR group is available, you will see a prompt by your date:  Get Gate Pass.  Yes, this is usually available about 11 days before PIR.  You will need it if you plan to drive on base for PIR.

I got letters today! He is still a bit bored at times. Between ship watch and a cough he isn't getting much sleep. He said they were fitted for dress blues/whites and even though they didn't fit it made if feel like a "real Sailor" lol his DIV 199 won a flag for passing the first test.
Tressa I could tell the difference in his writing style too... He's maturing, made me sad. Wrote a short note on Mother's Day that made me cry.. 5 more Fridays!!

TRESSA,

Hi, could you please remove your son's name from here?  Names of the SRs are not allowed here for security purposes~~  Thanks!

Hello All!!

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen,

but on what is unseen; since what is seen is

temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
