N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Personally I think they are just getting to the toughest two weeks.  This is where they are trying to get the rhythm of pulling together as a team.  It's a bit like herding sheep.  They will make it, but the frustration of the few wandering sheep will be taxing.  They will get there - but it is annoying to the squared away ones.

I have to admit, since I did this before the internet (1980-83), and I didn't have children back then, it really didn't dawn on me that all my recruits had families chewing their nails wondering what was happening.  I feel a bit guilty!  I wish I had let them make more phone calls!

Just wanted to add on Navy Lodge:  Some have kitchenettes if you want to cook for your new sailor, and it doesn't cost much more.  So if anyone would like to stay there and wants the kitchenette, be sure to call now and reserve one.  The kitchenette units go fast!  Residence Inn also has full kitchens (about 4-5 miles from base, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for the families).  We recommend that all use TripAdvisor.com to check reviews on any hotel you are interested in booking with.  Also, except for Navy Lodge which doesn't offer a discount---already has good rates, call the hotels directly to book and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.

It always benefits the SRs if you can send yours a phone card.....although they have a Navy-issued supply card and can use that to buy a phone card in the NEX, this will save them some money so that they can use their card for others things.

ChiefMum:  Wow, that is great that you have all of this experience!  I'm sure that you can enlighten all here, like you have below, about the RDC's mind....and how they decision-make in their training of the SRs.  Thank you for your service...and now, for your son's!

I'm completely new at this Social Media - I'm not even proficient at Facebook, but it is so cool and exciting to see so many come together to support each other and their Recruits, I couldn't help but give it a shot.  My son is in Ship 13 Div 213 and left on 4/16.

The good and the bad for me is I've not only done what he is doing, I've also been an RDC (back in the early 80's we were called CC's).  However, the good does out weigh the bad - I loved boot camp and it gave me incredible confidence and strength.  The good from having been an RDC is knowing there is a reason behind every lesson, and they will take care and protect our sons and daughters.  Once they become Sailors, the opportunities are amazing and for many that make the Navy a career, the life it gives you is hard to put into words.

The bad, he's my baby - and I miss him like crazy!  I have gotten to talk to him twice (Thurs for info) and a short call on Sat.  That made life a bit better.  Can't wait for 6/19!

Hey April5510-any chance you work at a Richmond law firm?

Hi April5510! My son is Sam. His recruiter was on Midlothian Trpk. If your SR. was with the same recruiter office they likely were in training together! We've had no phone call yet other than arrival night. Are you going to graduation?

April5510 - that is the same division that my boyfriend is in. It sounds like the division is doing well!

ProudNavyMom287 and April5510. Hubby and I are traveling from Connecticut. I just made reservations at the Navy Lodge, 2 queen beds, sleeps up to 4 people, $66/night. Since we are driving we will have our car. I am so excited to see the whole review. It was awesome when I saw my Soldier graduate in 2006 and I am sure this will be just as moving!
