Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I saw your post that your bf's dad got his kid in a box last Friday, a day after we received our daughters, so maybe your bf's form letter will come tomorrow!! :) Let us know!!

Is there anyone else here with a loved one in Div 235?

I'm having a little difficulty keeping up, so if someone else has posted about it already, please forgive me, because we just moved and we're still living in a slight construction zone right now, fun times!! LOL!! We are so busy finishing everything, that I feel like this time will fly by and PIR will be here before we know it - as compared to having to send our 18 yr old son off last December, and miss Christmas with him & everything, it was a very emotional time for us.

So...I just want to say for those of you having a hard time, I promise it gets easier and time will seem to start passing more quickly!! Hang in there everyone - because once you're at PIR, you will just want time to stand still - it's absolutely amazing!! I even had the post lady at the post office mention it to me today - I have a shirt on that my daughter's friends made for us that says, "Stay Calm and Love a Sailor" anyhow, she said her husband is retired Navy, and a couple years ago they went for some type of reunion up there, and got to attend a PIR as part of the weekend - and even SHE said it was an incredible experience & she didn't even know anyone graduating, lol. Point is - PIR to me, my husband (and apparently my daughter) and many others - is right up there with getting married and having your children in the first place - it is a very momentous and wonderful experience! I can't wait to share that experience with all of you next - HOOYAH!!!

I've also booked my room at Navy lodge but for some reason a rental car never clicked in my mind.. Any suggestions for a company that might have good rates there??

Comment by diannep on May 6, 2013 at 10:52pm: NavyWife: In regular traffic (not rush hour Chicago traffic), it is about 35 minutes from OHare to RTC. Midway is about an hour --- or more in rush hour traffic.
