Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

So far flight will be under $400 round trip. Flying to Milwakee.

I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts in your way. Please try not to worry so much, believe me I can feel your pain. I'm pretty sure your son is doing well.

My son said that his division is doing good and he didn't mention problems with anybody. If there was a problem you would know about it already. Try to remind yourself "No news is Good news".

I'm thinking your son was either doing watch or maybe he has a job (Recruit Education Petty Officer, Recruit Mail Petty Officer etc..), my son said SR's with a job have to do extra work. Probably that's why he didn't get the opportunity to call. Be very Proud of him for taking on extra responsibility.

I also have seen your earlier post saying you might be in the area where you have no coverage. My son called @11:08AM Chicago time.

Please stay strong, I understand why those tears are coming, I received a phone call and I still get teary. I truly hope they will let him have a make up call and I also secretly hope that they will let them make calls this weekend too.

Comment by diannep on May 6, 2013 at 4:25pm: kim: My son went to A School in Meridian. Their flight out of Chicago was delayed about 3 times....so they missed their connection in Atlanta. Uh oh....sailors "lose" in Atlanta after being cooped up in Navy Bootcamp for a LONG time! I'm sure they behaved themselves! :-) They were put up in a hotel by Delta and flown out the next morning.
