WOW what a great weekend. My mom met us there (she lives in a different state), and shared her birthday with PIR. We had a wonderful double celebration. Mom and I were able to go to the airport to spend a couple of hours with him, and get some food in him. We were able to meet a couple of the guys from his division, and that was a treat. Great guys, one and all.
mumof4, I think part of the problem-at least for me- was fatigue, lack of normal meals, and a super big high all weekend. Those kinds of highs are always followed by a sort of let down-again, at least for me. I got home late last night, and was feeling rather melancholy this morning also. After a brisk walk, some house cleaning, and normal food, I feel much better. I am so glad I took today off from work as well. I would have been a mess this morning ;-)
Wow, what an amazing weekend! Congratulations to everyone and to all the 192 and 193 moms who's kids made Hall of Fame! I was afraid my daughter would act alot different, she was her same beautiful self except with more confidence. She made it to San Antonio for A school and has been told her class will not start for probably 3 weeks, too bad they don't let them come home for some of that time, at least they can use cell phones and computers now.
p.s. hoping facebook posts our sailors PIR, my camera acted up and I am hoping to fill in the blanks.
I too will miss my sailor. She is so ready for A-school and really motivated. Having family come to her PIR really boosted her spirits. She was most excited to find out if she had changed in any way. I said in every way! She stood taller, smiled broader and really held her head up. Whirl wind of a weekend, but so proud of how well all of our sailors did on Friday! Not sure where to post advice for other PIR families. So much to debrief and no idea where to start. In the end, I think you make the best of the situation on what little or best that you can find out ahead of time. Like the military way, you need to ask, they just don't tell you. Rest up and prepare for the next chapter in our sailors' books. At least we can stay in touch a lot easier now, right?!
teresac: I don't know if you saw my earlier posting since you just arrived home, but I got to meet your son at the airport. He was with a group of other 932 sailors headed to P-cola...along with my son. It was a blast sitting with them all as they waited to board. Funny stories!!! I took a couple of pictures. I'll email them to you, if you message me your email address.
Mumof4 - I just got home about an hour ago and I feel the same way. I had to walk by his room and shut the door - he should be in there, right?
mumof4..... no doesn't go away... but I would say that you graduated BC with your sailor. You are now prepared to take everything as it comes as you learned that through the phone calls.... when they came you were oh so Happy.... now you'll have more access to your sailor... but hold that tight as the day will come when you have less contact and access..... YOU passed.... now it's time to move on.... A school... C school if warranted and then a possible deployment..... take each day and each little bit of communication and be glad for it ...no matter how much or how little and always be positive for your sailor....even when they are not
mumof4, It will go away somewhat though not completely. It gets much better since they can call and text now when not active with school or on duty.
My son either sends me a text or calls almost everyday now. A few weeks ago I got a text message with a picture attached it was of his toes and a (warning incoming sailor speak) "WHAT HE HELL IS THIS"...lol. His new roommate, who just had PIR the Friday before, decided to share the athletes foot he acquired in BC.
Care packages unannounced and sent once and a while help with the incoming phone calls too. :) I send him Mio (like crystal lite sort of) once a month since the NEX is out of it all the time. It always brings a call or two, mom send me this kind that one sucks. etc.
So yes it does get better, but it won't go away.
